Anschutz Model 525. Semi-auto.

Afternoon. I have one of the above. Bought new by me circa 30years ago. It has been faultless. Fired 1000's of rounds. Rarely malfunctioning using Winchester 40 + 42 gn subs. Accurate too for a semi. However, Just today it is ejecting the spent round and cycling the fresh one but appears not to be 'cocking' so unable to fire. The trigger simply pulls all the way back. Would anyone have any suggestions please ? I am not the kind of chap to tinker with it myself though. Or maybe it's time to get a new semi if it is likely to be an 'expensive fix'.
Thanks in advance of any guidance.

Kind Regards,

'Camodog'.

The first port of call would be to give the rifle and chamber a serious clean as you may have carbon deposit's stopping the round from ejecting or chambering. I'm not so familiar with the semi auto Annie's, however it could just be dirt in the mechanism. usually failures to cock are caused by trigger return springs getting weak or dirty. first thing i would try, is remove the rifle from the stock and flush with some clutch or brake cleaner and then pour some lighter fluid into the trigger mech, (Lighter fluid has a tiny bit of lube which will not attract detritus)

Take the rifle to a range and carefully try to reset the trigger yourself by pushing it forward, if it goes click then chances are you have a weak trigger return spring!

Secondly rimfire ammo isn't what it used to be, a lot of the newer batches and lots of ammo have declined in quality control, as was witnessed by myself and Mrs rimfire. We where asked to RO some newbies for an induction a few weeks ago. and much of the previously "good" ammo, was totally inconsistent. It was embarrassing to see the newbies getting multiple failures to fire and constant stove pipes caused by sub par ammo. Still they are now adept at clearing stoppages!

Remove the barrel by removing the screw in the fore end.
Go on YouTube and someone shows a strip and rebuild of the action. Easy to follow..
The trigger assembly drops out by knocking out two pins.
Give it all a good decoke and it should function fine.

I have two spare trigger assembly's if you need one for free, and a new firing pin I had to buy from Finland at great expense plus a new cocking lever with e-clip. for the above rifles.

I wore my last one out and scrapped it and managed to find a near new cabinet queen to replace it with.

Thanks 'CR' & 'B&WF' for those suggestions and very generous offer. I will have a look for the YT instruction video and let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

Unless you‘re fairly handy I’d be very cautious. The 525 is very easy to strip but an absolute pig to re-assemble.

I find it easy to put the receiver upside-down in a vice, use two small flat bladed screw drivers to compress the spring.
Hold the spring in place with one of the screwdrivers and use your freehand to insert the cocking leaver back into the block.
Job done.
If you try doing it any other way you will struggle.

Had one for very many years and shot multitudes of rabbits and foxes (22 was all we were allowed) and would buy one tomorrow. Being a semi it was very prone to grease/dirt building up so regular (annual) strip and clean was a must - main problem was the lube on Eley subsonics but the annual clean prevented any issues. Be careful with the spring - bits will fly everywhere - so wear safety glasses and make no plans for a few hours if you get it wrong!
Good luck.

I light of a couple of responses indicating 'bits flying about', 'pig to re-assemble' 'safety glasses' etc......I thought better of it and despite the best of intentions ie, gun upside down in vice, screw-drivers, goggles...😬 I dropped it of at the 'smiths' yesterday chaps !
Thank-you all for your input and I will post a report when I know more !

They are good semi auto 22s . I had one for quite a few years . They were sold here under the CIL name . It still shoots really well , unfortunately , my oldest daughter decided it was perfect for shooting Snow Shoes . I haven't seen it since . At least she has good taste when it comes to " borrowing " my rifles . They are a bit fiddly to reassemble , but it isn't that difficult . I hope you get yours sorted out .

PS
Do not shoot EVER hyper velocity rounds such as Stinger out of it - they will snap the ejector claw and you cannot get another!

Good Morning 'All'. As promised here's an update !
I collected my Anschutz yesterday from the Gunsmiths. All that was required was a 'good clean' ! He stripped it down, did the necessary, £35.00 ! Happy Days ! Very pleased it was nothing serious because parts may have costly and difficult to source/machine ! I took it to re-zero and it functioned perfectly.
Thank-you again for all of your helpful replies.

Kind Regards,

'Camodog'.

I've given up hope of ever getting mine back , but they do come up for sale locally fairly regularly . I may have to give myself an early Christmas present .

According to the 'Gunsmiths' when I collected it he said they do come in as p/x occasionally. I ask him to give me 'the heads up' if a good 'in comes in. May be handy as spare/s ! I'll let you know 'AB' if one becom.......oh no, I just noticed where you are, too far, oh dear, how sad....never mind ! 😊 Hope Santa comes up trumps for you ! 'Merry Christmas ' !

Kind Regards,

'Camodog'.
