Antler Chews

I think most dog owners expect their domesticated dogs to live for a lot longer than wild/feral dogs do.
Unfortunately the modern person see`s a celebrity Vet spruiking XXXX dog food and often as the complete diet etc.
The labels read like a menu in a cafe at times and when the can is turned out a brown porridge gloop shakes like a jelly.
Ah marrow bone jelly the label reads, with chicken and lamb eh!

Many people think that all their dog needs is that crap and the life of the dog is oft plagued with problems and that will shorten the dogs life.

And that dog with the badly worn teeth was as fit as a mountain trout. His teeth obviously didnt hold his condition back.

Thanks Buchan and John G. A Very interesting read and useful info.
As about to pick new pup up which is fed on raw food and was at some point going to give some of the antlers I have..
I know the pups and parents are very keen on rabbit ears so will be saving them infuture. To think of the amount I have thrown away.

id also guess a wild dog lives a pretty short life, especially once its teeth are cracked
I agree. I think it is easy to get an idealistic view about survival of the fittest and natural selection. Truth is, many of our natural species are indeed hardy due to natural selection but even after thousands of years of evolution, they are not now physically perfect. Teeth still break and rot, in fact that is one of the major 'natural' causes of death, for most large mammals.
