Any pipe smokers on here?

Never smoked a pipe but an old boy I knew did.
He smoked something called Erinmore Mixture and the aroma was wonderful. To this day I can still smell the aroma from almost fifty years ago.
My grandfather smoked erinmore (When available), also used to cut up horrible wet block tobacco and dried it out and shredded it.... smoked to early 90s then gave up, dying at 94 after a couple of years not smoking. May as well have enjoyed himself.

Both my great-grandad and grandad smoked pipes from a young age and both lived until their 80’s, I found a small handmade one somewhere many years ago in my late teens and nicked some of my grandads condor to try, far preferred it to cigarettes, although it got me some funny looks.
albeit I’ve now smoked cigarettes for the past 15 years, I do need to quit but this thread has got me tempted to pack the fags and have a pipe with some decent tobacco for the odd puff!

Strange you should mention twas thinking of a deep, dark, and musky flavoured number but but think will go for a cherry if I can find one in these parts. All da breast👍
Smoke Kings is near Leeds and the Black Swan baccie shop is in Scarborough. Both do various black cherries. Personally, the best I've tried is the GH Exclusiv BC. Some of the others can taste artificial and a bit soapy. The Exclusiv is spot-on.

If you ever can't get hold of any, Aireys in Kendal can get any Gawiths tobacco at the drop of a hat as the factory is in the town. Funny little old fashioned shop. Chap who owns it doesn't do computers. He has all his mail-order customer details on paper files and has been supplying some of them for over 30 years. My kind of shop.

It might work. The temptation will be to inhale, as that's what your habit is now with fags. Important if you take up a pipe to smoke it properly and not inhale, otherwise you'll be back where you started.

On the other hand, premium craft-made pipe tobacco isn't laced with the terrible cocktail of noxious chemical additives and addictive substances like tailor made cigarettes are. They are truly awful. If the pipe helps get you away from them for good it's definitely a win.

I first tried a pipe in my twenties, again as an attempt to kick the fags. I had a Falcon with the metal stem and screw-on bowl (smoked very well actually). I was inhaling from day one because of the ciggie smoking, but even so my chest felt noticeable better on the pipe. One day I thought I'd try a bowl of my usual Golden Virginia roll-up baccie in the pipe to see what is was like. I couldn't believe how much tar there was swilling about in the bottom on the bowl afterwards. You could literally pour it out. I'd been dragging that in while I smoked roll-ups. At least the pipe was taking it out.

I smoked cigarettes from school age until I was mid twenties. Wish I hadn’t. Hate the smell now. 3 of my 4 grandparents died from smoking.
I smoked cigars for a while until my kids were born and I had a reason to live. Also they became very expensive in the UK and my local tobacconist closed down.
The smell of a pipe is ok but I wouldn’t bother taking it up as a hobby. Makes a good wind indicator when stalking I guess.

Stopped smoking 14 years ago and although I love the smell of a pipe I’d be terrified I ended up back smoking….

Sorry to be a downer but know two people with advanced COPD and one with lung cancer so I just need that as a reminder why I stopped.

If any of these old farts lit up a pipe when stalking with me I’d shove it so far down their corroded windpipes, they’d be blowing smoke rings out their arse.

‘Orrible bloody things my old grandpa always said - mimicking my gran - as he pulled one out of his coat’s secret pocket. He’d smoke it constantly whilst driving his Granada estate around Sussex, loaded with fallow carcasses and sacks of dried cow pats. I took one drag out of it when the old fella wasn’t looking, aged about 10, puked on the velour upholstery and never went near nicotine again thankfully.

Next up for you lot will be an Off Topic thread about your favourite slippers.
