Any pipe smokers on here?

My old Dad used to smoke an ounce of Erinmore Ready Rubbed, in a Martin straight-grain billiard pipe, mixed 50/50 with an ounce of Barneys Punchbowl, I never saw him smoke anything else, except St Bruno if he couldn't get his usual, my Brother smoked Condor and 30 years ago I smoked Bruno in a lovely Dunhill straight billiard which I still have in picture.

I went to my local tobacconist today to get some of my favourite "Black Cherry Exclusive" to take to a bowls competition (Which I won) but unfortunately he had run out of my regular pipe tobacco so he suggested that I tried some of the "American Coffee and Caramel" blend, which I did - And boy I wish I had tried it earlier! I am currently about to go and enjoy another fill of the "Coffee and Caramel" followed by another pint of my home brew which is sliding down very nicely.
To me this is the end to a perfect day!!!!
If any of you haven't tried it yet then I suggest your do and you might well be pleasantly surprised, it really is a very nice smoke!!!
Whatever you are doing enjoy it and stay safe! :tiphat:
Cheers guys!

One of the landowners on a permission where i shoot smokes a pipe. Love the smell! It really is nothing like cigarettes, much richer, fresher smell.

Hopefully this is helpful, I have found that pfeifen Heinrichs have an incredible range of really brilliant pipe tobaccos and cigars. Roughly 50% of uk outlets'prices. Their own brand cigars are excellent and lightly flavoured.you can translate the page into English. They send a proforma invoice when you have ordered. Generally arrive about a week later.

This is the first thread on here I’ve read from start to finish and not encountered one argument! I quit smoking 12yrs ago, kicking a 40-a-day roll up habit.

Since then, I’ve had the occasional cigar (but haven’t been tempted to touch ciggies), but I’ve got a real urge to try a pipe.
I recently lost an uncle who lived until his mid-80’s and have some incredibly happy childhood memories of him teaching me to fish, with his pipe permanently clamped between his teeth.

Life now I’ve passed 40 is busier than ever and is making me make sure to enjoy my increasingly rare downtime even more.

I think I best order a pipe and some tobacco to see if it’s for me or not.

You may already know the craic with filling, lighting, smoking them etc, I don't know, but if you don't, have a look at a few of the youtube pipe smokers to avoid a bad starter experience or frustration.

Also be prepared for getting carried away looking at different types and wanting all of them in different colours and styles.

Same here. About a year ago I'd had a meltdown. Light going fast, home later than intended, rifle here, bullets there, stick only God knew where - all my own fault I hasten to add. I finished the explosion with "**** ME but I need a cigarette!" The wife (who'd been watching the whole thing, unknown to me) poked her head out of the kitchen window and said "if it stops you behaving like a three year old, why don't you have one?"
"really?"
"yes, a fag won't do nearly as much damage as your blood pressure will when you're in a rage, and your temper has been unbelievably short since you gave up. For 20 years you've been a sweet smelling pain in the backside and it will be better for you, me, the dogs and the children if you are calmer"
I'd always had a pipe, along with the Marlborough reds, Gauloises filterless and Gauloises roll-ups (amazing!!) and I find it really relaxing. I have 3 days a week when I don't smoke (don't want to be dependent again and I think it does no harm to let the gums and glands recover, as well as really looking forward to the smokey days).
Morkai above is bang on. I built a ridiculous collection of pipes, of which I now smoke 3, a couple of really nice Barlings and my Falcon. CGARS.com is really good, great choice of hardware, Mysmokingshop, UKtobacco, all are really good. I have a strong liking for Danish blends, one I found in Amsterdam (love a combustible souvenir!) called Sungold. I got back and went on the search and found Englisch who have been brilliant. Their prices are 50% of those in the UK with really good choice of branded and own branded tobaccos. Also their cigars are just unbelievable. I pay in advance against a proforma invoice and they arrive a week to 10 days later. Now, when I feel the pressure building or the urge to go nuclear rising, I break out my pipe, play with my tobacco, piddle about, puff, drop hot ash on my crotch etc, and by the time the smoke is going, order and calm are restored. Happy days...have fun!

This thread has played on my mind, and I’d done a bit of research since. I’d put a few things in the basket on the ‘Black Swan Shoppe’ website, but didn’t bother clicking on the order button.

However…Monday finally saw the confirmation that the divorce I’ve been going through for the last 20 months was finally over, so I had a ‘sod it’ moment whilst enjoying a glass of bourbon and confirmed the order.

I got home from work this evening to find a package on the doorstep; a Sarome cashew-wood ‘bent apple’ pipe, some filters & pipe cleaners, a 3-in-1 tool and a small pouch each of Rattray’s ‘Westminster Abbey’ & Wilson’s of Sharrow ‘Red cherry cavendish’.

Once the dogs were sorted and dinner was simmering, I headed to the garage to load up the bowl and clean my shooting boots. I tried the ‘Wesminster Abbey’ and despite needing a few relights, it was thoroughly enjoyable and I puffed away contentedly whilst brushing and waxing.

I’ll wait until the weekend and see how the cherry cavendish is (it smells divine).

Have a look at Sherv's mixture from JJ Fox. they have one called "Majestic" too... a real treat.

Coffee caramel is a lovely blend believe it or not, but after reading your post I would suggest giving Gawith Hoggarth's spirit of Scotland ago

I’m getting worse 😂

I’ve now decided that at nearly 60 , life is short , so I’ve taken to enjoying a fly cigarette when I’ve had a few drinks.

I reckon two packs of 20 lasting a year is hardly the end of the world

Trying to find quality cigarettes is a problem mind
Embassy filter or Dunhill international seem to be few and far between .

Go with a cigar. More flavour, a decent pure nicotine hit plus they’re available in a selection of sizes all the way from cigarette to a respectable truncheon depending on how you feel.
The Central American offerings offer a bit of variety over the Cuban standards .
They go really well with a decent malt, but you’d need a hurricane to shift the smell if you indulge indoors.

Pfeifen-Heinrichs website has a good selection at very good prices. Having smoked a lot of Cubans before I gave up the baccy 20 yrs ago, I now find them quite over powering, both for flavour and price. The new world types (Dominican/ Nicaraguan etc) I find very pleasant. I particularly like the Peter Heinrichs house label. Very light and sweet. They also have Woermans cheroots in a box of 100. This is certifiably the perfect zeroing smoke. Pretty much bang on 11mins to smoke. Yes, I got bored and timed it. Fire a group, open the bolt, lean it vertical and light one of these suckers. Amble slowly to the target, piddle about, saunter back, a couple of puffs more to finish and the barrel is cool enough for another group. £30 for 100. Repeat all day long. Bruddy Marbrous.

Recently tried Century VC which was really good, need to source some more. Picked up some Clan and must say it was excellent. I go months without picking up a pipe and then have a few weeks of smoking. I store all my tobacco in sealed bags and clip top boxes with 58% humidity pouches which keep everything at a nice moisture level.
