Anyone else had the Covid jab...

HAD mine don't understand all the fuss

The wife has just had her first jab at lunch time today. No side effects or reactions except for the fact that she said she felt a little "light headed" - However it should be said that this is common for Marlene as she hates having any sort of injections and gets a bit worked up about it. She is fine now and I'm glad that we were able to talk some sense into her about having the vaccination as she had been worried by the "scare mongering"!
Marlene is in band 4 but I am in band 5 as I am not quite 70 years old yet but I am looking forward to having mine without any qualms at the first possible opportunity!

Bet she has a mild aching arm for a few days Norm all us old tarts at work had it lol so glad she has been done :tiphat:

They're finishing off the over 80s (in a good way) and just got into calling the over-70s, so cool your jets, young 'un. :)
Not quite so simple.
I got offered (By my GP) a jab 3 weeks ago today, (Yep, it would have been on a Sunday) but declined.
I think it depends on your Post Code area when your name comes out the bag. Nor rhyme nor reason in some instances.
Ken.

just as a sideline, my Doctor phoned me to come in for a test, told me to stay in my car, I gave him the reg No and colour, and duly turned up 5 mins before the allotted time, seen the Doctor come out of the side of the building, he came over to my car, waved me out and I followed him to the surgery door, where he asked me for may name and date of birth, problem was he wasn'tt looking for me, so he told me to go back to my car and wait inside it, any way after sitting in my car for the next hour, and now 1 hour after my appointment time, I went to the surgery door, told them of my predicament, they then told me to go back to my car and wait, 30 minutes later they came out and apologised, apparently the first Doctor forgot to tell them I had arrived and was waiting in my car. Now whilst I was waiting in my car I seen a elderly Lady standing by the front door of the surgery for about 40 minutes, and standing in the teeming rain, I dont know whether she gave up and went away or what, But I do know that both her and myself would have been right to just go back home, because of the way we were treated, so not all no shows do it without good reason.
I go for my Covid jab next Wednesday, and I will be turning up, without any paperwork at all, although I thought you needed to show it. (the receptionist told me I dont need it).
One last point, the NHS has never been free, its free at the point of service, which means you should not be asked for money for your treatment, but we all pay into it.( well most of us, those who are able)

I went to a drive-in pop-up covid test centre last Tuesday, did the swab thing - self-administered - in the car, handed the bag over and here I sit, 5.5 days later, and have heard zip, nada, niente, not a bean. Compare that with another test I took before that at a walk-in centre locally - appointment at 4pm, results were emailed at 6am the next morning - a 14 hour turnaround. Mind you, even the government website says if you don't hear from them in 6 days, give them a ring! So that's my exercise for tomorrow morning then!

Unfortunately, I find that Test and Trace is not as effective an organisation as the vaccination program is.

I am not convinced that the covid test is of much use, (unless you are told there and then whether you are positive or not,) I can see instances where you're told you dont have it, you pop into Tesco's on the way home, contract it, then get a letter 3 days later saying you dont have it.

The point is you get a test if you have symptoms. So if you have symptoms, you should be staying in anyway and social distancing if you go out. Then if you are told you are negative, you should still stay at home and social distance if you have to go out. We are in national lockdown after all.

Surely the problem is, if you are told you are negative, you are more likely to go back to work, or feel safer going out. It is much better if you have symptoms to stay in and isolate, rather than go for a test.(in my opinion), after all we are in a national lockdown, the point being to stay in.

You are only required to self-isolate if you test positive. If you test negative, you should still follow lockdown rules but you don't have to self-isolate. Work from home if you can, only go out for an allowed reason and social distance if you do.

My wife had 4 negative tests before her 5th test proved positive. Her Zoe app kept telling her to get tested when she reported a change in her daily health. She's been working from home for months and as far as she can tell, she was passed on a narrow path by a middle-aged male jogger who was breathing heavily and she smelt his breath which went straight into her face from so close she could even smell it.

That's how scarily transmissible this thing is.

The odd thing is I haven't picked it up from her (still waiting for 2nd test result but fingers crossed).

Hi,
I took Mrs Glade to the docs today for her COVID Astre Seneca jab. I wheel her in and I was asked if I wanted the jab as I am her carer. I jumped at it. I was duly jabbed. The doctor whilst administering the job informed us he has vaccines left over from people who had booked a vaccine and then not showed up!!! I find this a sin under the circumstances because he can’t store the vaccine at minus 34, and it has to be thrown away.
My wife is not having any reaction to the jab, however I am. I have temp and feel generally crap with aches and pains and a headache. That said after dosing up on paracetamol I’m beginning to feel a bit better! I’m glad I’ve had it all the same.
Rgds

My wife has the same reactions you do, it whipped her about a week then she felt better.

...and none taken :)

As she works for the NHS I've just given her a quick call to check.

She says your "similar manner" is just below the middle of the cheek on the left buttock.

When the nurse calls you in for the jab you should be prepared to immediately drop your trousers, shuffle in to the booth, and bend over. Apparently you have to do the same even if you attend a drive-thru clinic.

Forewarned is forearmed ;)

WW, brilliant that has made my day!!!, that said I'm now looking forward to dropping my kit, it' been a long time since I was asked to do so!!!. May I truly thank your sister on behalf of the "Responsible Public" for her, and her collegues for carrying out such unstinting work on behalf all of the populus

Very Best Wishes to them all!!

I will.

My sister is backroom rather than directly at the coalface, but they all deserve our recognition and support.

My niece on the other hand is a midwife, so has been delivering littl'uns all the way through lockdown. Hands-on throughout, she's been both exposed to and caught Covid. Hard to believe she's the same little girl that I remember being Christened not that many years ago!

That's not forgetting everyone else out there working, whether that's to keep us safe and sound. fed and watered, or educated and entertained.

They are all doing a marvellous job.

I am now well impressed how UK Ltd has got it"s act together, puts my 130 euro per month health insurance over here to shame, I am not even booked yet.
ATB.
Get this mindset over into other fields of endeavour and the big B may yet work.
MacDonalds could start injecting the no shows as they would never miss their drive through's.

Maybe she was one of the reserve list that they tried contacting at last minute in that case...but odd it wasn't by phone given there was no means offered by which she could respond. Tried the actual vaccination clinic as well yesterday. Also just the after hours message...frustrating.

No doubt all will be made clear when she gets through to the surgery on Monday.

Alan

Turns out her GP surgery were only told at 16:00 Friday that there was excess capacity over the weekend at the clinic so they just blasted emails out to all on their list to see if there were any takers...

Appointment now made for 8am Saturday and second jab beginning of May.

Alan
