Ok another thread...
1. Didn't want to hijack other gents thread
2. This more for single lense non sir query..

What would those in know recommend for a pocket ..ish..
Descent camera
Bit of zoom
Single lense
For general pic whilst out walking dogs or out with family
An EDC if you will
3. I know folk will say oh your phone but no ...awkward in hand.... try to do soemthi g somebody messages or a notificstion etc...

Something like canon sureshot or Panasonic Lumix (TZ99 maybe) but you really need to handle one to see if you like the ergonomics and size. In order to differentiate themselves from phone cameras, compacts have gone more chunky and some focus heavily on video capability.

Have a look at the Olympus TG series, now up to TG7. I have had a TG5 for years, excellent little camera with a decent zoom and first class close up capability. Waterproof and shock resistant, no special software needed, it also generates a RAW file which can be opened in Photoshop. Here are a few examples taken with mine.

Another vote for TZ99 , 30x optical zoom good battery life, can charge battery in the phone, spare battery easily available, use mine all the time.
