Looking for a suitable short arca-swiss rail to fit the twin studs holes on the forend my E-Lite stock from PSE

Anyone done this or recommend a suitable product?

Cheers guys

John

Definitely don’t start drilling your PSE stock - it is not that straightforward!

I have one sitting here that is likely suitable, drop me a PM and we can discuss!

I’m sure @ejg will be able to comment with more authority than me, but I’d be cautious of drilling the PSE as I know when you order a PSE with ARCA or Picatinny rails from PSE, the mounting hardware inside the stock is laid up in the stock during initial construction as a strong point to allow a robust and reliable mounting point. It may not be as simple as drilling into it.

Just dug mine out - it won’t work unfortunately. The following would be the solution but typically out of stock at the moment:

I've asked the question of them

I've had the stock for a few years now

Ordered it with twin studs as that was the extent of my imagination at the time

Definitely need to find / alter a rail to suit the studs rather than the other way round

PSE make a dedicated arca rail for the ETac

I have had to modify (repair) some horrendous bodges of PSE stocks over the years

They are not to be messed with by the person who has no idea what they’re doing

Seek advice from Edi and his team if in doubt

John, sorry for the late reply, had a great day out after deer in gale conditions.

The E-Tac stocks generally have a piece of aluminium in the font section of the forend ~ 120mm long which makes fitting rails a bit easier. In the E-Lite or hunter stocks we leave that away to keep weight lower which makes it more difficult to make changes. We place reinforcements into the stocks where the customer wants his fittings. The reinforcements would be of strong epoxy mix similar to a bedding compound. Mostly to take up the wood screw type swivel stud with 3/4" length. To change this to a machine thread such as M5 one needs to fit a metal thread insert or bond a piece of say Alu into the forend to be able to drill and tap a thread. It is sometimes better to fit these metal threaded inserts or solid metal pieces from the barrel channel side.
Since every stock is made to spec it would be good to check the distance between the swivel studs to make a call which arca section could be used or if an extra hole needs to be drilled into the arca section. We have a good variety of short/medium arca rails also some that have pica arca combinations.
Another option would be to use the front screw hole, leave the rear swivel stud and fit the second thread hole forward for a very short rail.
If you have a rail at hand I can advise how to fit. Or I could check what rails we have in stock that could suit...... then make a plan.

As Ronin has experienced we have also seen some quick fixes on our stocks that did not look great or were not up to the task. Best to take a few minutes longer to do it right... or give it to someone who can do it. All work can be done with hand tools.

This isn’t a how to, or to offer anything other than what potentially is involved

The E Lite stock is perhaps four maybe five years old and had “hard use” on open hill roe and reds plus lowland Sitka - so well used and plenty of battle scars

The stock was fitted at creation with stud and Spartan adaptor

Plus non bolt side flush cups

However as the owner has fallen out with the Spartan system, they asked if I could fit a short section of picatinny rail for a decent bipod to be fitted

Basically I’ve adapted a Magpul short picatinny removing the key mod spigots then marked the hole spacing on the stock to avoid contact with any of the original fittings (which would cause more damage and weaken the stock if removed)

Once marked I flipped the stock and using a very sharp flat based drill cut into the carbon skin and into the filler material

Once removed the filler was covered in CF dust mixed with short strands and epoxy resin- I also bonded two appropriately sized washers into the base of each hole

Once this was cured I applied a layer of glass fibre around the hole sides to seal the stock skin against the elements

I don’t have a vaccum pump otherwise would have applied lighter weight CF sheet into each hole

Anyway - once this was cured I trimmer back to existing hole for neatness and sealed with an outdoor paint

The pilot holed for fixings were re drilled and longer 8/64 (I think) stainless fixings with nyloc nuts fitted to secure the picatinny

Enough space has been left to allow a 1/4” drive socket in to tighten / release the nuts securing

Not a straightforwards job to get done correctly

And there was I thinking that it was an easy ‘off the shelf’ fix

Cheers Guys

SD is such an enormous font of knowledge and expertise

Imagine our sport without it 😳

PS - I shall not be doing this myself

Someone just pointed me at this thread. The tactical version (flat) is out of stock but the standard Arca which is designed for a rounded (but will work on both) hunting style rifle is in stock.

If you do end up wanting one drop me a line and will do you a discount @bowji john 👍
