I was on a powder stand at IWA yesterday and overheard two insiders talking together, the gist of which was that the Ukraine wars powder usage per day is higher than all the EUs police/military training/target and hunting usage for a whole year. Which will go to explain the shortages as the makers can only make so much per powder week with their present tooling. If they invest to up their capacity as they did in WW2 then they were left holding the baby when the conflict ended.

Needs government or EU grants to fund such expansion to remove the risk from the manufacture, but doubt that will happen.

Yeah, and government grants and investment always help industry. <sarcasm>

This mindset of having the government step in to solve issues, is part of the problem. THey don't do it out of the goodness of their hearts, and there is always a catch that comes back and bites them on the butt.

But I digress...

If you get to reading the old American Rifleman issues from the 50s as I do the writing is better with almost no ads and Townsend Whelan and the others were a joy to read. They often mentioned how during WW2 there was no availability of powders and bullets for the civilian market hence Ralph Sisk and the others beginning by making .22 cal bullets from old .22lr cases.
