Are these carbon deposits?

IMG_2125.jpegIMG_2124.jpegJust bought a Borescope and had a look down the barrel of my .223. I am assuming these black areas are carbon deposits any ideas? The black areas are more prominent in the middle of the barrel much less so near the chamber and muzzle. My cleaning regime is to use Wipeout Tactical Advantage on a wet patch or three allow to stand for a few hours and then dry patch out until clean. Lots of copper and carbon on the patches and they do come out clean after a while. Rifle shoots great, just want to make sure I’m not getting a build up of carbon.

Thanks, I’ll give them a try.
Try applying the Wipeout using a nylon brush and give it a gentle scrub, it seems to froth the cleaner up and works better.
Leave it to soak then give it a few passes with the brush before patching it out.
Have you tried using Accelerator with the Wipeout?

I have tried using a brush and have left the Wipeout in overnight neither approach seems to shift the residue. I have yet to try the accelerator. The Wipeout bottle I have is about 5 years old so I’m wondering if it might have lost its effectiveness, there is no expiry date in the bottle.

I have only ever managed to shift that stuff with j and b bore paste all the fancy chemicals I’ve tried do very little on baked on carbon

It's not only carbon but also copper. Can you see the orange shine? Your deposits are not really heavy. But if you want to get rid of them either use JB's borepaste or a bronze brush. Nylon brushes do nothing at all.

Carbon storage is a big deal nowadays, are you sure you should be doing this?
You‘re an FAC holder, be very careful with posts that are contrary to government policy on an open forum.

Carbon sequestration is all the rage these days, do you think I could get a government grant for all the carbon I have stored in my rifle barrels?

Tactical Advantage + Accelerator dissolves Carbon and Copper, it might take a couple of soaks but no scrubbing with a PB brush and abrasives required.
