most green camo looks black at distance especially when wet. A paler colour camo can be useful in decieving crows ,blackbirds ect into not giving away your position if you move very slowly through a wood. For deer any pattern that doesnt break up the human body outline is pretty pointless as they cant see the colours we see anyway . As a rule lighter colours work better than darker unless you can keep to deep shadow. The best i,ve seen so far is the american "stiks and limbs" the colours are a bit wierd but the pattern works well against almost any background with the strong black lines serving to break your outline. I,d probably wear mine more if i could find it !
