Are you afraid of your scope?

Nothing to do with Weatherby Eyebrow!

With the non-surprising discovery of spyware in China made security cameras and systems, integrated all over the U.K. from banks to government to street cameras; one might start to wonder why a company as big as HIK (and others) that is 30% state owned, would invest so heavily in the hunting market. Yes, it all adds up, and penetrating new market segments helps grow. But, hang on, we already know 1:100 iPhones have spyware built into them…so..
When you download the app or push that plug into your computers USB slot, do you ever stop to wonder if you’ve just provided a spyware portal to your own personal information? The more firearms holders do this, suddenly they will have a database over who in the U.K. owns firearms, likely email contacts with police/licensing.

Who’s to say your IP address and email cannot be cloned and frame you, for who knows what! Putting your FAC and freedom at risk.

I know to some this seems far out, but, everyone happily buys their digital scopes and such, the. Downloads apps or plugs it into their computer that has all their private data on it, not realising what actually could be happening.

There is a reason the military will not purchase night vision that’s got anything to do with Chinese made products, even if they contain components therefrom.

How do ‘you’ feel, safe and happy? Or a bit worried.

Just a bit of a fun subject to discuss, as we all seem to defend own British manufacturing and desire to protect our country from risks such as spying, infiltration, etc.

Feel free to discuss

Interesting (I don’t use electronic scopes though), but do you have anything to back up the 1 in 100 iPhones are compromised? Not saying it’s not true, but have had so much trouble with FB ads ND MY iPhone I’ve stopped using FB. Can’t be too careful with firearms security

Many good points raised,

When it comes to all tech, especial S.M.A.R.T tech which has "app" integration who reads the contract which pops up when you tick the box?

So many times now by agreeing to terms you are providing full access to your data and personal information.

like you say where is this data going? CCP data farms with algorithmic computation and cross referencing other app usage? What are they doing with it really???

As for spyware the late great John McAfee total nailed it.

Should we trust the CCP (Chinese Communist Party)?????

Uri Besminoff a famous USSR defector gave a great interview in 1984, as to the subversion of western society.

Imagine what is posable now with a surveillance device in every hand?

On a side note, who owns and provides hosting for many forums nowadays???????

Here little Phishy.....

if I had a smart tec scope it wouldn't bother me about anyone spying on me because I would cover my scope with the same tinfoil I have under my hat to stop the government and aliens reading my thoughts.
" just because your not paranoid doesn't mean their not after you"😆

If they wish to watch then they can its not as if i point it at my credit card or pin numbers 🤣 they may see the odd head explosion but hay ho nothing that you can't watch on TV.

I’m not referring to back doors allowing others to access your footage, it’s when you download apps and firmware they can possibly access and monitor everything you do on your phone, emails, banking, etc

Let's hope they don't all have Kill switches built in, or even worse the Chinese have the same idea as the Israeli secret service and in the event of a confrontation they all explode and wipe out all the vermin and deer managers, Just saying

Personally I dont do anything vaguely interesting...so if foreign nationals want to watch clips of me shooting targets, foxes and deer they can crack on

Perhaps my thermal will give them useful data?

Given my phone, TV, computer, ring door bell etc etc they have lots of data.

One of the terriers has a pitpat tracker, how can I tell him that "they" are spotting the squirrels he loves to hunt.

The horse has bolted I'm afraid, every non cash transaction can be scrutinized, every smart device is accessible. The internet and the internet of things is like the wild west, and we're all blowing through it. Either switch off the power or bury your head in the sand 🤣

They have gps and will tell them where FAC holders live, based on coordinates where firmware updates were downloaded, to start with. Which can be used for blackmail or worse.
If access through a back door allows them to access your phone or computer, that’s access to ALL your personal information, NOT just your shooting footage

Most are now blue tooth enabled so data going back to the linked device all the time. So effectively tracking your movements if your scope is linked to your phone when your out shooting.
D
