I made an enquiry to my GP about upcoming renewal and the practice responded within 8 hours to say that they always respond promptly to FLO and no charge. Also noting to me that there is a firearms marker on my file and there is nothing currently to indicate that they would raise any concerns when responding.

It's a decent rural practice and I note that at least one of the doctors enjoys shooting - nice people as well

However now the request has to come from you the applicant to complete the report which you submit with your application. The old way was if you declared a relevant medical condition the FLO contact your GP.
So will it be a quick and free response when you ask your GP to do what is private work? Time will tell.

I recently submitted the renewal application for my FAC and SGC. I enquired with my local surgery to see if there was a charge for the medical records check report and was informed that the charge would be £35 so decided to go with that but was fully prepared to go straight to one of the other suppliers (e.g. Medcert or Shootercert) if there was any hassle or if the fee was higher than the alternatives..

My local surgery must have cottoned on to the fact that they might as well supply the report for an acceptable fee or land up doing all the work and getting nothing as the report was completed and returned within the week. I knew that my medical records were already flagged because I saw a copy of a letter on file at my last annual medical.

The online renewal process seems to work well provided that you have assembled all the necessary information beforehand but it took a bit longer than the twenty minutes that they suggested. I'm just waiting to see how or even if the new statutory guidance affects my renewal which is due in January.
