Don't really want to stir......
What's the problem if AW's charge especially on their own ground? I don't a problem and if an AW charges £100 a day just for witnessing including paperwork down the line with letter etc. People have mentioned getting 'ripped off' and well lets be realistic here. How much does a builder cost an hour or a mechanic for a few hours. An AW is an experience person to the same relative level of experience and your paying for their service.
Step back a bit now..... We all know about mates rates and doing favours whether it's doing the car or whatever. Deer stalking and witnessing is exactly the same and while some AW's are happy to witness for fuel costs when it's not related to their income, others need to charge as it's directly tied into their income.
The AW who witnessed me put it right into focus for me. When he takes clients out on the fallow he averages 2-3 a day but when witnesses candidates on the same ground the success rate lower than 1 a day. Even at 1 fallow difference per day that's a big chunk out of the guys earnings and the extra fees he has are to compensate for this. He makes more money NOT witnessing that doing it so you tell me then, what's the problem?
Also bare in mind the cost of qualifications and compare level 2 to your chainsaw, quadbike or whatever short course costs.. These things are not given out by Father Christmas you know!
