Bait station

Has anybody used bait to get deer to come to a particular area on their perms
I have an area where i d like roe to come as it provides the safest shot from one of my high seats. Was thinking carrots or potatoes as bait.
Has anyone considered a bait station and have they been successful. If so what bait is considered most attractive for roe

bait stations for roe are not very successful a salt lick may be better or a pheasant feeder filled with wheat

Used salt lick very efficiently, but NEVER shoot at that point always too and from, they learn bloody quickly!

Used aniseed lick for fallow , they loved it until the tack sheep turned up

It doesn't work very well to shoot deer over the bait they learn to quickly

I used a pheasant feeder with wheat which worked very well with Roe, but after couple of culls they learnt very fast and became nocturnal. When I moved the feeder they still didn't feed last light think the associated the feeder and last light as danger.

Also be very careful about introducing large amounts of grain suddenly it can lead to bad stomach problems with ruminants.

on one estate the keeper spins or trickles wheat from the quad roe just walk out as he passes we use this when we have difficult to get at deer but dont use it as a regular thing same with the feeders

I think i ll try the salt licks instead of bait. Hoping this would last longer and could have them located in several locations over the farm
Having not used these, what is considered the best way of presenrung them to the deer(roe)?

On a post so the salt " washes" the post when it rains. Lasts a bit longer too.
I put a flat piece of wood on top to act as a table ,it's muntys my way but Roe will enjoy as much atb

Like I said never shoot at the bait. Always too and from.

Obviously doesn’t bother red deer in Norfolk, they did 200kg in one sitting last winter the buggers!

Please don’t. TB and CWD both linked to bait stations in the US due to deer gathering closer than they usually would and sharing food sources

. It would be interesting to plot the distance they will travel from their own patch if nothing else happens using stealth cameras

treacle for sika for sure just make sure sheep canny get to it or its gone .rub on rocks or tree stumps
