Barnes 50gr TTSX dimensions - 223, 22-250, 220 Swift

Very nice @Sakoodin1 they might work as some people shoot 55gr tipped bullets ok in the Swift and 22-250. I didn't even try with the tips in.

I've also just stocked up on 100 bullets after hearing of shortages.

I thought about the 55grn but from the millions of forums I looked at I think I have more chance of the 55 shooting in my rifle because of the 1-14” twist,I will let you know as they have just arrived

Sorry was meaning the 55gr jacketed bullets like V-max & Blitzking - although stability calculators show them as unsuitable. The Barnes 55gr TTSX are way too long for the 1:14 twist.

Great cartridges the fast 22's!

Another thing to note is that even if your rifle is shooting a marginally stable bullet accurately, the BC will be compromised so you'd be better off pulling the tip anyway with no downsides - just better expansion.

Tried them both ways and with the tip on the 50grn ttsx and they went absolutely everywhere with the top on but with the tip removed they clover leafed!!! I would never of believed the little plastic tip would of made that much difference 🤷I stopped at 0.5grn over max with no pressure signs and a speed of 3590 out of a 20”barrel seated 36thou off(close for Barnes I know but it opens right up the further I go out)so that will do, I might try some at 26thou Tmoz just to see and split it if I need to but to be honest it’s good enough for a factory barrel.

I seriously suspect a good market for barrels with faster twist rates and new riflescwith faster twist will become the big seller over-the-counter next few years . Some will of course get lucky because some will shoot good as with std twist of that I have no doubt but it won't be commonly but a total anomaly
Having just built a 260 rem fast twist for copper no doubt I will be looking to other firearms to swap out or alter

What twist did you put in your .260? I’m just getting mine built at the moment and think it’s a 1-7.5” it’s a .260 ackley though

These bullets just plain work, with boring regularity. On the rare occasion that they encounter enough resistance they don't have the momentum to exit.

Roe buck shot on the move at 50m or so at a very raking angle, dropped on the spot and took a few seconds to expire. 13.5kg larder weight. Bullet entered at rear of ribs, damaging some of the loin. It carried on through the top of the chest and came to rest in the top of the opposite humerus, totally breaking it. I found one of the fragments 4" from entry under the skin, having broken ribs.

Terminal velocity roughly 3300 fps.

Meat loss limited to 1/4 of a fillet/loin

I really need to see what all the fuss is about with copper, I shall order some.

Nice looking man cave as well Rory 👍🏻
Thanks man, workshop a bit chaotic as is my life usually!

I've always used copper bullets by choice but not everyone likes them. I like to add some results pictures as it can be hard to find info online for those that are interested.

Biggest roe doe I've shot - 19kg larder weight! I thought that the shot was around 200m as I ranged it roughly afterwards but couldn't remember where the deer had been standing. It could have been a bit further due to bullet hitting lower than expected, maybe 225m or so which equates to around 2400 fps terminal velocity. The deer was found in the area where I shot it, couldn't have run very far - couldn't see it run as it was obscured by brambles.

Heart shot that went through muscle in both legs, breaking rib close to sternum. Very messy under both shoulders and I discarded more bloody meat than usual.

7.5 will do the job fine I went 1-8 and its fine with the 120 grain ttsx and tge 100 grain , also sweet with seirra 100 grain varminters in lead . Have some other stuff to try

Same here! I kicked myself for not buying a cheap one at the start of the year. When this came up I thought that I better not mess around.

Plenty of tinkering ahead. I might free float the barrel and pillar bed in future (I've just reinforced the forend pressure point with epoxy putty for now). I've also got a 220 Ackley reamer so might rechamber this barrel to teach myself chambering. Also the scope mount is too high so need to modify another one and drill and tap receiver to get scope as low as possible.
Welcome to the world of the Swift! A good varmint bullet is the 50gr. Hornady SPSX. Accurate , and soooo explosive. Hope you can still use lead core bullets on varmints.

I do shoot jacketed bullets at targets - don't get the time for vermin shooting at the moment. I use Sierra 50gr SPT and 43gr Viht N140 which must be doing over 3800 fps.

Sierra's marketing and prices seem to have influenced me such that I've never used Hornady bullets much.

Thanks, I do really enjoy shooting with my swift!
