Barrel blank quality?

I know everyone is going to say, just chamber it and shoot it and ignore the borescope, but be honest would you be happy with this? brand new cut rifled, British made blank.

No not Phoenix, I want to get peoples thoughts on this before I ask for a refund, I've got 2 of them identical, I'm not blown away to be honest.

Once you've seen this, you'll never be happy even if it does shoot OK.
I've been trying to work out how the angled deep looking cuts across the lands could have happened.

Maybe it found it's way out of the scrap bin.....

A couple of years ago, I turned down a newish Tikkatac 223 after a squint up the barrel.....never seen pitting like it.

D.

Gosh - that's a sorry sight. It's not just one or two random scratches near the end that could be trimmed off, but there seems to be different categories of flaws all through the length.

If those blanks are British made they'll very likely be over 400 quid each...I'd be sending them back. If im going to get bent over with high costs then I want a flawless product

We need a name 🤣. It could be a one off that slipped through the net, but helpful for others to keep an eye out when considering options.

A question to the gunsmiths on here… how common are marks inside a custom barrel blank?

Minor or major, what are your experiences?

Nice to see someone with a bit of sense and integrity for a change. Looking at the pics I’d say the cutter possibly needed a regrind, the lands look like the barrel was reamed prior to rifling, the groove shows signs of worn cutter. But at least you got it sorted. Respect to you for not doing what most would do, start spreading malicious gossip.

I’m happy you’re sorted with no hassle. I don’t have enough experience with new barrels, mine have still the originals fitted. My 6.5 tikka looks better after a 2000+ rounds that’s yours did in the photo (to my eyes anyway).
