BASC commits ‘Fighting Fund’ support to Humber wildfowlers

Glad to hear that the fighting fund is getting used & wish the Humber Wildfowlers every success but it’s a shame the same attitude wasn’t displayed regarding Findhorn Bay! Still a complete debarcle despite being heritage activity here too but where is the intervention?

Findhorn Bay. S/Yeti, as a Scot you are no doubt aware of the huge differences in law from England, but others may not be.
There is a public right of recreation on the foreshore, so that clubs are not able to control shooting in the same way as England where they hold leases, usually from the Crown Estate. As Findhorn became well known it attracted a great many shooters from down South. The major "goose alley" flight path was easily accessible, and some of the behaviour was very bad. The behaviour of local antis became very extreme, but it remained a civil matter. I did a morning flight on the key area a fair few years ago and even then the overcrowding plus "skybusting" was unbelievable. My mate (no angel) came over and said "I'm off - if I stay here I shall thump someone" so we went for breakfast early.
The route to controlling individual protesters should be as In England by getting an injunction but this is hard, expensive, and it is difficult to demonstrate a breach.

The remedy in Scotland, as at the Eden, Caerlaverock, Wigtown, is to declare a Local Nature Reserve (banning shooting) and then pass bye laws which which permit such activities within limits. There is a risk here of course as seen at Caerlaverock of totally unreasonable conditions being imposed.

I agree that BASC Scotland might have put more into the problem but I am not sure what they could have done in what had become a very polarised situation.

Recourse to law, I won't be holding my breath.
I may be an optimist, but are there signs of a new tougher stance being taken by BASC's? It's appeal against the decision not to grant them interested party status in the JR of the Welsh General Licences has been sucessful.... I'm happy to give praise when / if it's due.

Although I am no longer a member I’m glad that BASC are actually using members subs to fight for the sport and industry in general and I’m really at a loss as to why it wasn’t done before but we are where we are.

Perhaps instead of always bashing BASC people should support this apparent new but long overdue ‘strategy’ rather than putting them down for it.

I have my own opinion as to why they are doing it but as I’m no longer a member it really isn’t relevant to the discussion.

I agree but like the old adage "one swallow does not make a summer" - I need to see much more openness and action, especially legal action in support of shooting that then, as you suggest begs the question of why now and not before - JR for medicals - I will find it very hard to forgive that - not explaining there volte face over lead is almost as bad. Still, onward and upward hopefully still an opportunity to JR over medicals and then the really would be the "Voice of Shooting" as my school report used to say - "Can do better if he puts his mind to it".

Well Said Jimmy Milnes,

Where are the other ORGs on here????

You can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.

I am glad that BASC have finally chosen to offer financial help and advice in relation to this. As the current situation in the way that NE are operating needs sorting out.

There would be plenty moaning about their loss of wildfowling on here if nothing was done and not just on the Humber.

The Humber lads and quite a few other clubs in England have had an uphill battle with the "pen pushers" in NE for a number of years.

I'm willing to bet, a lot of the axe grinders on here have not the slightest idea of the efforts expended by a few stalwarts in their local clubs and BASC in dealing with the politics of NE.

So Good on Conor for coming on here and also for BASC's wildfowling department for their commitment to the Wildfowling community.
