BASC Council - changing the tone

My current subs elsewhere expire Jan 2020. I will join BASC in Jan 2020 and vote for Kes if that helps but I have no idea if that fits in timescale wise for the next council elections. When does that happen Carl?

I expect a good many people on this forum sit as silent members of BASC. I know a couple of friends who have BASC membership that just perpetually renews but I know they are not involved in any other way. I will beat them with a blunt stick until they vote accordingly.

Hi Cottis,

That's fabulous! Thank you.

I don't yet know when the next elections are or how many seats will come up. I know they serve for a five-year term but don't know whether all seats coincide or are staggered.

It would be a booger if we have to wait another four years, eh...

I suspect @kes Is researching this as we speak.

Kind regards,

Carl

Happy to support. No doubt David Kalahari can give some useful pointers re campaigning. I don’t know how many BASC members actually vote in the elections, a fraction I suspect, but even so I would guess the SD BASC membership community is a fraction of that number. So Kes would need somehow to appeal to a wider group somehow. Other social media ( such as dual SD PW members drawing attention on PW to the campaign) needs to be deployed. Not sure about FB. Don’t use it myself

Yes - I'm in Carl and Kes

What do we need to do in order to proceed with this?

Great, John. Just need to get sufficient notes of support on this thread to show @kes that it is worth his while rejoining BASC. Then we need to know how the calendar works and when the next elections are: they may not be for some time , which would be a nuisance. After that, near to the time, we start campaigning with all our hearts...

Agree 100%.

Hey gang,

I'm pretty sure you would all agree that our countryside way of life is under greater threat today than it has been at any other time in living memory. Many of us are dissatisfied with the muted and deferential response of our largest shooting organisation to this threat.

As a result, a good number of you have left BASC and joined other organisations. I have considered doing so myself, but - on reflection - I do not believe that further fragmentation of our ranks is a winning strategy. We already have a large shooting organisation and it contains a number of dedicated and hard-working people. I think we need to make it work for us.

To do this, we members of the Stalking Directory (whom I find, generally, to sit at the more militant end of the shooting-politics spectrum (myself included)), need to get our own representative on the BASC Council.

After some pleading from me, our very own @kes has agreed to rejoin BASC and to stand for council if sufficient numbers of us commit to supporting him. I think we are privileged to have a candidate of such intelligence, knowledge, industry and passion who is willing to represent the views of shooters. I will vote for him in a heartbeat.

To gauge the level of interest in supporting this effort, please would you express your thoughts by reply below.

And note, this ain't just for current BASC members: if you left them, then I beg you to rejoin. We need to get a more aggressive voice on that council.

Kindest regards,

Carl
I agree entirely. My support for 'kes' in any future election to BASC Council would be forthcoming.

...and a lot of companies these days apply the principle of "disrupt the norm to progress". So let's a have a spot of challenging the status quo (nowt against the band!), and get the needed progress. Because it is needed.

I take it you are supporting the "disrupt the norm to progress" in the Capital over the last 11 days?

A noble gesture with good meaning however turn it around for say one who has been that vocal to sit on a school board or parish council.....

Good luck to him but you need a bit more than luck..

Count me in and I reckon I can get the support of some if not all of our club members (38) we will need to know a name at some point unless it is Kes of course.

.....I specifically stated "companies". Do I agree with the actions being taken by XR? No. Quite a leap to presume I do, based upon an articulation of a corporate perspective. So no, you can't "take it".
