BASC Council - changing the tone

I'm in.

Kes.
You already listed the name of a group in #77
GB - COAS
Great Britain's Conservation of all Species
Or
British Isles Biodiversity Conservation Group
BIBCG
:-|

I like your draft, Kes. I think the immediate priority is to find out when the next BASC council election is so that we can mobilise people around something concrete. Do you know yet? Or does anyone else on here know?

Best,

Carl
Carl and all, elections occur at the AGM which is traditionally in Mid June given the writing of blurbs advertising and holding of elections, say 3 months. and assuming vacancies occur and are notified pomptly, we are looking at starting in late February. However, if a member could ask the question of BASC HQ, we would know whether there are going to be upcoming vacancies and when the process of electing to Council will begin.
I suggest we all have a look at Para 3 entitled MEMBERSHIP in the Constitution of BASC. Part 3 d could well prevent me being admitted as a member. If admitted as a member then Membership 3h "if a member shall conduct himself or is likely to be, in the opinion of Council, injurious to the character or inconsistent with the objects and well-being of this association or its individual members or ........... 3h does not currently apply but once elected ?
I am wondering whether someone else might not be a better choice. However, at least if I ma denied membership or booted from BASC after the election, we will all know where we stand.

Quite new here but happy to support. I have found SD more useful and more supportive than any of the other clubs/ forums I have been on. Feels good to be part of a group that shares the same passion.

What I would like to see from potential candidates is providence from the field....not keyboard kit picking.

BASC roots are from wildfowling, know the waders have been switched to deer stalking taking the lead in courses.

Natural England's managers are a prime example of talking a lot about the field with the EFRA committee example their
lack of providence from the field shone through like an open curtain in the blitz...

Having irons in the fire instead of a keyboard would be a good start...

As a former WAGBI member I can see where Tim is coming from. Basc has reinvented itself from those hessian days and although they harvest as many wildfowling groups,or rather have inherited most. They now have their feet firmly under the table and shamelessly follow the money that is deer stalking courses etc.
Members needs seem to taken a back seat. I believe Kes has extrapolated this imbalance and hopefully will address it..

With the run up to these elections will the tone from the past start to change with less pictures of BASC staff members pictures being posted?

Much the same as with a job interview you need to be qualified for the job in the first place!

Will the posts have a nice straight tie, laces in a bow and the jeans washed the day before lol

Im in and will do my utmost to get every other countryside enthusiast I know to follow suit.

Too many decisions are made in citys with little knowledge of the consequences.

Kes - wish you all the best. :thumb:

Reading through the thread, surely we need to know how many members we have on here and the make up of who’s in what organisation. If we know percentages of members who are in each org we would have a good idea if we can realistically get Kes on. Let’s go further why not try to get a member on the others too NGO, CA, GWCT, etc.

That's the thing Steyr, No other orgs are set up like this.

Which is why basc should respond to members views more so than any other org.

Not sure if I should post this and not wanting to pee on anyone's chips.

But before kes or anyone else for that matter got my vote is be wanting to know
slightly more about his interests hobbies and wot shooting sports they do, which is reported in the basc magazine anyway come election time.

I've never met kes or know him, but I honestly can't remember/noticed kes posting in anything apart from bashing basc.
I know absolutely nothing about him other than he had some fairly serious basc paronia.
Up till last week basc where still the devil incarnate, to be honest there have been times I have almost been worried for ur mental health.
Some threads recently I almost expected a basc induced breakdown, fortunately never happened.
If 1st few committee meetings don't go ur way how will everyone react? Basc has just got over from some staff/committee turmoil do we really need more
I do think some expect too much, never has there been a time when politicians/rule makers listen to scientific reasoned argument less than now, which is very worrying.

Kes I do agree with much of wot u say althou not so extreme but I do find it hard to comprehend how someone can have such strong vocal views then do a 180 so suddenly.
How many brexiteers would like another emainer/may coming in to sort brexit, as it does seem like 1 off the loudest critics is now going to fix it.

Also I'd want who ever is elected on to be able to benefit the committee, sometimes it can be :banghead: :banghead: and u just have to compromise slightly in short term.
How well would david and conor like working with kes after the way been treated on here by some

I'm not wanting to put a downer on anything and things DO need to change massively and quickly at basc but I would like more info before I stick my name to any masts and u can make an informed descion on which candidate suits my views best.
That said they're really does need to be a wholesale change in wots going on at basc

Hey @kes ,

Some really helpful stuff from both @Tim.243 and @countrryboy above.

Do you fancy starting by posting more about yourself here, most specifically your sporting and/or life CV?

Also, it would be worth responding to the gently-expressed and very reasonable challenges posed.

Kindest regards,

Carl
