ban on pump action shotguns, ban on all lead, ban on non biodegradable plastic wads, ban on game shooting, section 2 abolished all section 1. Full cost recovery of fees to pay for knife crime is in the labour manifesto.

Yes Connor we will need your fighting fund, every last penny of it.

As regards the new government I think we can each help by getting to know our local MP, whatever their party, but especially if they’re Labour. Invite your MP to see your shoot, clay ground, range or shooting business – many are new to politics and know little of shooting so let’s start them off with a positive and informative experience. Would now be a good time for all the major bodies to pool resources & funds & work together?

By this I mean BASC, NRA, NSRA, CPSA, NGO, et al all getting together & presenting a united front.

As for full cost recovery, does anyone have any idea how much this will actually be? - as a starting point how about looking at how many hours it takes each force to process a renewal/application/variation & put a cost to it?

My point is we need to prepare for what is coming & have responses that are detailed & have analysis of facts behind them to counter any spurious claims or justifications for increased fee levels.

As for using funds from full cost recovery to deal wi knife crime, that's a nonsense - full cost recovery means just that, recover the full cost of the process. To use funds to deal with knife crime would be cost +

Besides why should one section of the community be discriminated against? - surely all sections of the community should be paying for the fight against knife crime.

Full cost recovery will be dictated again, by their own constabularies office bills, nothing about UK wide standards.

A large proportion of UK shooters (perhaps 50 per cent) don't join any org. Some members of this forum even boast of their lack of joining and promote cheap, crappy, standalone insurance schemes. These freeloaders are a real issue.

We should look to Chris Packham for a solution ! He has done it very well, and we do not need to re-invent the wheel.

When a specific challenge to us arises, we need to crowd fund. It is as simple as that. This can raise the necessary money so that we can oppose proposed legislation through the Courts.

It worked for Chris Packham, it can work for us !

While I agree with you completely, the biggest hurdle has always been shooter apathy

That's great news. Do let me know as I can can arrange for someone from BASC to be there to support. Hopefully more forum members will follow suit - there surely must be enough people to cover a few dozen constituencies on here.

Thanks for your support as a BASC member. Two things spring to mind.

Firstly, to draw on your scenario that 75% of Labour MPs would be against shooting and public ownership of firearms, less than 75% of certificate holders are members of BASC. I think if anyone is not already a member of BASC, for whatever reason, now is the time to join because the Association is without doubt going to be the single most important asset that shooters will have over the next four years. And for forum members already a BASC member, we each need to encourage others to join our Association in fighting for our rights, sport and way of life. Strengthening the numbers and resources of our Association for working people with an interest in shooting means a bigger and better resourced BASC in countering threats and acting on the opportunities ahead.

Secondly, the plan is to contact supportive MPs from all parties inviting them to join the All Party Parliamentary Group for Shooting and Conservation in the House of Commons. We know the views of most MPs that held their seats and we know the views of some the newly elected MPs following our general election campaign. We are also contacting newly appointed Ministers in key departments such as Home Office, Defra and DCMS. However, what will really make a difference is for local people that shoot to be contacting their MPs in every single of the 650 constituencies.

So, with that in mind, would you be willing to contact your MP on behalf of shooting interests in your constituency and keep me in the loop?
