"BASC slams Government’s lead ammunition review" - A bit bloody late!!!!!!!

You can stop a dog from wagging its tail by cutting off said appendage. Or you can simply cut off its head. This IMHO was never, to some, about anything but the decapitation of recreational shooting "by other means". Make it so expensive that the diehards that still remain after all the legislation passed as specific Firearms Acts hasn't terminally discouraged them by instead pricing them out of that of the sport they still persist in stubbornly clinging to their wish to participate in. That's the mentality I fear of many that wish to see lead banned. Not out of any concern for animal welfare but instead as a means to end all sports shooting. Participation in the activity won't be ended as such and BASC will indeed no doubt "welcome" that after a lead ban shooting still continue to be open to all. Yes. Absolutely. Just as is dining at the Ritz.

Anyone concerned about animal welfare should not be using copper bullets.

Simply done by passing legislation, that any food for public sale must be shot using none lead ammunition, anything else, deer for personal consumption, targets and none edible vermin, carry on as normal

However that only addresses the human consumption issue.

BASC were naive they thought the voluntary transition to non toxic shot to justify large commercial game shooting access to markets would have no impact on the rest of shooting. They did not stop to think it may open pandora’s box like the HSE has now done and BASC can now have little credible in any negotiation’s.

Naive again when the thought GP medical reports would win us a ten year certificate.

Says he he man who bases his evidence on 1 copper bullet that didn’t perform 100% spot on!

I have had lead bullets pencil straight through before, 130gn nosler BT to be exact so stick that up your arse and smoke it!

So once AGAIN talking 100% SHITE

There are 1000’s of deer a year humanly killed every year with copper bullets!

@caberslash what you have to get into your thick head is, that there are many more stalkers on this forum that have many many many years more experience than you!

I totally agree BASC are doing more harm to shooting than Chris Packham ever will.

I don't get why they have to go after target shooters. Alot of us who like to go on range days use MOD ranges, MOD doesn't like monos, lead would no longer be legal to use so we wouldn't be able to shoot. This is before the ridiculous cost involved with solids especially when 100+ rounds in a day is normal. I can understand the mentality of keeping lead out the food chain but leave ranges out of it.
Will the Military use non lead to prevent shot people dying from lead poisoning?

-5° this morning so stalking can do one!
It was -5c on Friday morning when I last stalked. I usually sit in a high seat and watch the sun rise but the cold penetrated my thermal trousers and forced me to stand and watch instead. Still a beatiful morning to be in church even if the deer didn't want to co-operate much.
When I got back to the car 3 hours later the windscreen was frosted over again.

If it were cheap silver, and gold, would make fine shot. Better even than lead. The mass, almost, of tungsten, the softness of lead and then some. Other than the cost I am surprised that pure copper shot hasn't been tried as it is, surely, although expensive is, what, 1/3rd cheaper than bismuth and certainly cheaper than the metal once used as an alternative non-toxic shot of tin?

Bit of googling shows testing with Tungsten and tin mix along with Tungsten and Nylon mix as far back as the 1990s.
Tungsten seems to have the right properties but is expensive, finite availability and on its own i can’t see it being kind to rifle barrels.
Sure i remember using Tungsten tipped 5.56 ammo so years ago.

To be fair the military surplus I use has a very little amount of lead in it, even the jacket is only copper plated like the steel cases. As usual though MOD and law enforcement will be exempt from the legislation so they won't give a toss. Civilian shooters have always seemed to be a pain in the rear for the MOD using their ranges so I doubt they'll be bothered if we can't use them because of the ammo changes

I've just bought a slab of Hull Game Flight non-toxic from Southam's Newnham Street sale. These are tin shot. Cost me £85 the slab of two hundred and fifty plus their 24% commission. Not cheap but I am hoping an alternative, in my late father's 1919 made Henry Clarke gun, that's cheaper than bismuth and will do well enough on twenty-five yard pheasants and duck.
