Because a lot of the public don't like and don't see the reason for firearms. There are no "good news" stories about firearms, just people being harmed. Given you can only shoot one gun at a time it's difficult for most people to understand why you need more than one.

Theres thousands of good new stories regarding shotguns and the people that use them - you maybe just dont read them
Surely thats their issue - why make it ours ?

A regular O/U for driven
A clay gun ?
A semi auto for pigeon ?
A semi auto - synthetic for the foreshore
A hushpower for close to house work
A dedicated night time shotgun with a thermal - and on it goes

While I agree that it's probably a complete waste of time contacting my MP, it always has been in the past, I shall persevere or he will think "that if we just ignore them they will go away".

Its the weight of numbers we need - i sent my letter this morning to 200 people in my circle - if we all did just 10 or 20 people the results would be incredible - I also sent in pictures of men - women - and children - of many races shooting and doing vital conservation work together

Exactly this I was there too and as far as I’m concerned it was a complete waste of time got nowhere, just like emailing your MP, I’m not even going to bother because my MP is not worth contacting and neither is the answer that I will get complete waste of time I’ve got better things to do like go stalking

Why not contact the policing minister then ? If not for yourself for others who will come after ? - Its a 2 minute job

Only in dedicated shooting channels. Nowhere have I seen the daily Mail headline, "Plucky clay enthusiast saves child from dog attack" yes I am being facetious, deliberately so

Yes you are - there is loads out there if you care to look properly - goodness know Schoffel have just done a series on shooting and conservation

I can't see what the problem is. Seemed an anomaly that one can have an unlimited number of shotguns and can transfer them at will, but the same doesn't exist with firearms, even doing a swap at an RFD.

Because someone has determined there is a distinct difference:

All the time because we have no choice, just hope they spit first!

We are VERY small minority, we HAVE no clout, WHAT we think doesn’t matter in the slightest, what you are ALL forgetting is THEY could ban public gun ownership within a click of their fingers and there is **** all we can do about it!

They can do all of that, but none of what you’ve just said explains why it’s a bad idea to make our feelings known. Other than it might cost 10-15 minutes of someone’s time.

I just can’t understand the mentality of enjoying shooting as a pastime but not only refusing to stick up for it yourself, but actively encouraging others not to.

If you must martyr yourself, do it alone ffs.

That's a very defeatist attitude. I do enjoy some of your contributions but on this topic, as history shows you get more and more agitated when people don't support your missives, and then leave the site for a holiday, returning months later probably with a new avatar.

I’m not defeatist at all, it honestly wouldn’t bother me if they banned it all together, like I said I’ve had the best of it!

I keep myself to myself, guide a few clients, still shoot a few for myself, really enjoying a little bit of fallow stalking at the moment, but will I stand up and be counted?

I stand by that quote, so i keep my head down, beaver away and look after those who look after me and vice versa, enjoy my shooting and stalking while i still can.

I’m not going to stop anyone from writing letters, I just won’t be doing it, cause I think it’s a waste of time, unfortunately that is my opinion and I say it like I said that’s my curse.
