BBC at its finest....

I think the key to this is in the opening paragraphs as reported by a number of news providers and not just the BBC:

"The figure, from a team at Imperial College London, the Met Office and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is based on what's known about the dangers of extreme heat.

Most deaths will have occurred in the June heatwave, they say - the warmest June on record in England, when temperatures hit 37.7C (99.9F) at Lingwood, Norfolk, smashing the previous high of 35.6C (96F) set in 1957."

No mention that a considerable portion of those were at the edge of life anyway, and wouldn’t have survived a Norma UK Summer (whatever that is ???).
It is sensationalist at least if not over exaggerated.
Typical of all our news outlets 🤦‍♂️

This is from a model looking at mortality above expected baseline mortality that is probably due to the excess heat due to global warming (which is happening, it is our fault, and we can do something about it). Heat is not good for frail people

The BBC is just reporting on a scientific report.

I'm looking forward to the BBC series on evolution, and, given the irrational dislike of the BBC and the contempt reserved for Chris Packham, I am expecting many on this forum to now reject evolution as a biological process.

Its a shame CP has to present stuff as I liked the look of the new series...however I can only lower my standards so far so cant watch anything with him in.

I doubt any one would dispute that, and it has been a recurring event throughout the history of the planet.
it is our fault,
Unproven, and not supported by the data or rigorous scientific scrutiny.
and we can do something about it)
Quite probably not. The effort would be better expended on mitigating the inevitable effects than trying to control the weather.
Heat is not good for frail people
Cold is significantly worse.

Says more about you than those you are trying to denigrate.

I'm sick of being preached at about climate change. We live in a country which contributes circa 1% of the world's carbon dioxide. Frankly, whatever we do in the UK is pointless whilst industrial giants and the developing world burns fossil fuel like there's no tomorrow.
No denying that the climate has always changed. The coal in the ground beneath my house exists because there was tropical forest here previously.

Why is it that the BBC & Met Office don't seem to want to talk about the proliferation of Urban Heat Islands "since records began" and the impacts that they are having on current heat records, and why it is always "cooler in the countryside" with no cogent explanation being given?

Disliking the BBC is not really "irrational"..........there's a lot of tripe among the gems, but for me, the gems outweigh the tripe, (and while I think that Packham is basically a "good bloke", I don't watch his TV series....)
Disliking home made scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream is what I would call irrational...

This thread is beginning to sound as though the heat is finally getting to you lads.. :norty:

D.

I have to agree, it’s not his views I dislike but what I regard as a condescending attitude
I think we have to accept differing views...just a shame he often blurs the lines between fact and opinion and his "celebrity status" means people take what he says as gospel. To be fair I also wont watch anything that County Deerstalking post on Youtube due to the presenter ... and I actually like watching deer shooting related footage

You are absolutely right; the same was true of 'deaths from covid,' death coming a day a week or a month sooner than it might otherwise have. That's why the median age of those dying from covid was 81.5 years!

When the top end of this country gets the 30 34 degrees a might take a bit more notice
I was 11 in 1976 was exceptionally hot Always hotter in the south
How much has been paved tarmaced over glass buildings
If they average the temperature over the country as a hole what would we get
Another pis,;* with the bbc bad weather barely gets a mention if it’s up north 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Scotland & the true north
Not Manchester . We could freeze over
Very little coverage
Been a great year for most things on the ground partridge pheasant hare rabbit lapwing larks ect
But the pond life will struggle ying & yang . Always been that way but global warming will get the blame 🤔 a forget we no longer use that term any more ….. make of that what you will 🤷‍♂️
