suspension of new grant applications | Bedfordshire Police (beds.police.uk)

Bedfordshire police have just suspended grants for an unspecified period following "changes to firearms licencing law" (Link above)

"The process of obtaining and retaining a licence are now more robust, with considerably greater checks. In certain cases, checks with external agencies, such as health professionals, social services, probation services, multi-agency groups.

Checks with other regulatory or enforcement bodies, conducting drugs or alcohol testing, credit or other financial checks, interviews etc."

I've just renewed with Hertfs/Beds/Cambs, they are all one unit.
It was very straightforward, however, there has been mistakes on their behalf that I'm trying to resolve.

Predictably Herts & Cambs website say the same.

BASC league table figures (albeit a bit old now) puts them in the top 10 of forces for performance. Looks like they have arrived precisely where many others did much earlier.

I've always seen good and efficient service. I expect they will back on form before long.

"Changes to firearms licencing laws" ??? Really?
There have been changes to guidance and one wonders if Bedfordshire now feels that they have not been up to scratch and have gone into panic mode to cover their sorry little arses.
Well they know who they have granted certificates to and if they have made a horlicks and need to do a review/get them back in, it's a bit more than covering their arse.

Credit checks ???.
I would be surprised if most forces did not search for county court judgements against a potential FAC candidate out of course . It tends towards indicating character of the applicant , if not more . I dont think they are interested in your net worth
The one thing missed is social media - You will 100 % be checked out on that but face facts most employers check that one out

Credit checks ???.
Yep, that's a bit of a puzzler, ain't it?
Stertotyping I suppose: If you're in debt and struggling to pay your bills you're more likely to rob a bank at gunpoint, and therefore mustn't, on any account, be granted a FAC or SGC. :cuckoo:

(Either that or it means you obviously can't afford to go shooting, so therefore have no "good reason" 😬)

Suicide is still the biggest risk to manage and lots of unexplained money is how an old clay shooting contact got collared for dealing drugs and that was a long time ago , likely white ticket no photo days

Having completed my FAC/SC last year with Beds police my experience of them has been excellent to date. I read the thread with a level of disappointment and frustration

To be honest , a lot of shooters between the age of 25 and 50 , will probably have a mortgage and kids , and be pretty skint , so you wouldn't really expect that to be much of an indication as to their suitability to own fac/sgc .
I suppose that once things move onto bankruptcy and CCJs etc , that could be a bit different.

I'm starting to think that I really should give my mate the fiver back that I borrowed in 1985 , because the xxxx is still moaning about it , and it might scupper my renewal next year.😁
