Bedfordshire Police have now suspended all grants indefinitely due to Plymouth.

Just remember not to dye your hair if you have to submit a hair strand test for alcohol or drugs - it really messes up the test and shows as negative in all cases.
Just like if you cut your fingernails really short!
Wouldn’t want anyone to cause an issue with the testing procedure!!
This actually happens and to whom? Where? Tbf i am dead set against folks with serious drug and alcohol being granted . Drink driving has always been a gun licence looser and that's not a bad thing at all

Was in the original post.
Totally agree re drink driving and guns and drugs and guns. Problem is if they do a hair strand test for Slovaks it shows you ‘drink’ but aren’t a full blown alcoholic - who draws the line and where is it drawn?

I doubt a police force will be doing hair follicle testing, I think they only use that for recruiting.

If they were to do anything it would be like the roadside swab test but the hair would give a better historical picture (if you have hair).

There is always an inevitability about chenges after events where the Police have failed the public, so the impression given is that it is anything other than the fault of the Licensing 'regime' .
What surprises me is that it takes so long to issue 'new advice' when the Public may be at risk - another reason to fully understand that the ''changes to make the public safe' are not necessary but merely to hold a fig leaf over the exposed parts of the Police SERVICE.
So we have inefficient service (firearms is but one), a typical detection rate of less than 10 % and the Police SERVICE think they know how to better sift the public who apply for guns to shoot for a hobby/sport etc.
Lunatics and the asylum spring to mind - the Police SERVICE continues its inevitable progress to the bottom whilst playing the harp of public concern.
Anything of real importance i.e. Firearms Licensing should be immediately stripped from their responsibilities as, after many many examples, they are not fit to administer it.

We now have them on television to advertise the GOOD they do, using drones (with a carefully worded explanation that its not a case of 'boys with toys'). Someone needs to get a grip of the Police whilst they spend literally billions and achieve only a fair tv rating.

Seems unlikely they would be employing hair strand testing as part of general screening. Perhaps if they had specific cause for concern.

Hair testing costs £100s per test, and has to be sent off to a lab to be carried out. Vs the swab/urine tests which can be carried out with minimal training, give instant results, and cost a couple of quid per pop.

Fyi for anyone in Herts Beds Or cambs,

I’ve created a timeline below of my recent application, they seem to be picking things up now.

12th April- FAC grant application with SGC renewal conterminous applied for via the online system.

12th May- licensing department confirmed receipt of application and that its waiting to be processed

19th June - email from licensing dept confirming application is being processed

16th July- credit/ financial check undertaken (received notification from clear score and can only assume it was the police)

19th July - licensing dept confirmed it has been processed and that an FEO will be in contact.

31st July - telephone interview with FEO, application approved and have been advised new FAC and renewed SGC might be on my doorstep this week. Will update when it arrives.

just over 15 weeks from first application to interview, considering the shutdown for a few months is not too shabby.
Hopefully things will improve further
