Beginners day stalking

I had the pleasure of attending a 1-to-1 stalking training day followed by an evening stalk with Mike (@Loler UK ).

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the most productive and insightful hunting experiences out there.
Mike is a stand-up gent with a fantastic stash’ to boot. I was a first-time deer stalker and young lady hunter. Previously the biggest thing I’d shot was a rabbit with a .22lr and by the end of the day I had bagged my first ever muntjac.
Mike was amazingly supportive and patient throughout the day. We started the morning with the basics but quickly moved on to simulated targets, discussing kill zones and points of aim, various shooting techniques and at different distances. Thanks to Mike’s direction now have a whole new perspective on laying prone and getting the gun into a relaxed, neutral, repeatable position when aiming.
I had never shot from sticks before but was shooting accurately on them, setting them out and pivoting them left and right (on a steep slope) in just a few hours. A testament to his supportive and effective teaching.
Late afternoon / early evening we then practiced stalking & shotting from sticks on a few rabbits nearby and soon headed out into the woods.
Mikes grounds were glorious, with wild garlic carpeting the floor and sunlight spotting through the canopy.
After a fairly gentle walk and stalk, Mike set me up on the perfect bend with a great backstop and managed to call in a beautiful Muntjac doe.
The rest is history! He showed me how to gralloch how to inspect the organs to boot!
It doesn’t matter if you’re experienced or band new to stalking, Mike is a wealth of knowledge. If you’re looking for some expert teaching or just a great stalk from a trustworthy guy, I would recommend Mike

Well done you and of course your tutor! Sounds like you had a great introduction to deerstalking - now you are hooked, just like I was forty-odd years ago! Mrs FB and I are off to Perthshire on Saturday for a week’s stalking and I am already packed and ready to go, if it was Christmas my note would have been up the chimney last week! I hope you feel the same when you are our age. Only 5 minutes ago at the dinner table Mrs FB said she would be happy if she didn’t shoot anything - I am blessed!
Mrs FB and I wish you well, may your aim be straight and the wind always to your face.

Thank you so much for your kind words 💚. I hope your week stalking is filled with wildlife and you both manage to harvest a stunning beast 🦌🦌

Many thanks for your kind words,

You were a pleasure to teach @AbiW I hope to see you again some time soon.

No patience was required, you took instructions very well and were a joy to be around. Your ability and speed on the sticks by the end of the day speaks volumes and a perfect 'bang flop' when the moment came despite the adrenaline. Well done
