Has anybody used or owned one? Any concerns or problems, defects, that are known to this make and model?

I'm after a u/u to replace my sporting guns which is either 70 or 119yrs old.

A bit niche, if you decide you don’t like it in a few months you may struggle to move it on.

As boring as it sounds I’d get a miroku instead, some excellent examples currently available for very reasonable prices

Yes, others have recommended the Miroku. I don't want anything too common, I like being a bit of a contrarian. I wondered about the Benelli reliability

Just pop this into google: benelli 828u sport problems

Anything mechanical can have faults!

There’s a few niche miroku’s out there, perhaps an early model or something like an MK10 that was only imported to UK in very limited numbers? Or an older classic model?

I’ve got one. Bought it second hand. Put well over a 1000 cartridges through it. Lighter than the silver pigeon I had with less felt recoil. Shoots as well as my pig but lighter.

I do like the look of the Benelli. I was close to getting a Yildiz Pro Black about a year ago but decided against it in the end. I prefer the silver Benelli but haven't got my hands on one yet.

I've googled reviews but much prefer non-partisan, unpaid and objective reviews on things where possible. Of course, ones opinion is only that but it's helpful to know about faults, issues etc.

Got one. Love it but then I also used to have the Browning Cynergy black ice. I like the lower profile action and the weight.
Probably no more problematic than any other guns out there. Be careful of the carbon fibre top rib.

I've had mine since they came out over here and not had not issues with it at all - At an estimate I've put 6000+ cartridges through it from light clay loads on sim days through to some pretty heavy game loads.

It's a great gun and I'll likely never part with it.

If your sporting guns are not completely worn out, then check the chokes. If they are very tight have them opened up to Improved Cylinder and 1/4 and use a standard steel cartridge. If its 2 1/2” chamber then Eley Grand Prix Steel, Gamebore Regal Steel and Lyalvale all make 2 1/2” steel cartridges designed for old British guns. Once you have shot a box of them and got used to them they work just fine. Like changing any brand of cartridge it takes a few to get your timing correct. You will still miss, but my experience over the last few years on phaesants and ducks, if you put the bird in the pattern they fall out of the sky.

By all means get a new gun - but you will find they market and trade in value for your old guns really very poor.

An alternative to spending lots of money on a new gun is to use Bismuth. Its expensive, but less expensive than buying a new gun.

I have seen plenty of guns really sad. They have advised that their old guns are useless, have traded them in for an over and under and have never been happy. Meanwhile their old guns have taken for not a lot, and then being shipped abroad for very good money.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll keep my old guns. They hold far too much sentimental value to let go. Plus my old 1907 gun is excellent for squirrels and long distance rabbit. It's just it's very long, a pump, it misfires and jams a lot. My sxs is from the 50s, it looks fancy and is a proper sidelock, but it's far too short for me. I've got butt extenders and neoprene sleeves but it was also a hand me down and not worth trying to make fit.

I'll not buy anything new! It's against my religion. I'll wait as long as it takes to get the right thing. Same goes for cars, houses etc. I tend to avoid tends and frenzies and am happy to pick up last season's casts offs!

Has a load of benelli shotguns, very reliable but I found them light and whippy. Great brand and action even with minimal cleaning. They cycle even the lightest of cases but I always found beretta or blaser more fitting

This - and find one that fits you. I tried the 828U as Im a Benelli fan but three trigger was horrible and the balance just didn’t wok for me as a clay gun. Great looking and very well made though.
