Bent barrels on the SLR (L1A1) were not an uncommon phenomenon, hardly surprising when you consider their length relative to their wall thickness, and of course their use, general duty levers, used for hiking mates over high walls, and any other general abuse.
With lots of practice very easy to identify bent barrels, and many other barrel conditions, with the Mk 1 eye ball. Bent barrels can be straightened but its often not economically viable to do so.
