What’s the main reason for a tubed night vision as opposed to the way the zulus works? Sorry new to the night vision world hahaDon't count out the Arken/DNT Zulus LRF ZHD520R
I've tried this side by side with the Alpex 4K (thanks to @mealiejimmy)
The Zulus is a different form factor, but is cheaper than the Alpex and comes with it's own in built IR torch (the Alpex doesn't). It's also got ballistics calculator etc.
While the Alpex had a better still/contrast-y image, the Zulus to my eye has a much higher refresh rate and is a lot smoother when scanning areas. Also the Alpex on highest magnification was a pixelated mess, the Zulus's image on max mag was much more usable.
Would be nice to try some out! Anyone got some to tryThe Zulus is also way lighter than the Alpex, it'd sit nicely on a .17 HMR.
Not knocking the Alpex at all, it's still a great scope. Best advice would be to try/look through a few before you commit
P.S. if the Zulus came out in tube format I'd be all over it!
Thanks for that Bruce, good to know they are the same but it’s just down to style!"tubed" night vision scopes like the HIK Alpex/Alpex 4k, Pulsar Digisight C50, PARD DS 35 etc look like a traditional telescopic sight and mount onto the gun in the same way as a traditional telescopic sight using rings
Some people simply prefer that style of scope over the "hanging off the back of the rifle" style used in the DNT Zulus and PARD NV008
It's simply a matter of personal preference
Cheers
Bruce
Yeah I’ve got a pair of hik micro habrok thermal range finder binos, so won’t need lrf from the scope to be honest. Yeah can get brand new alpex a50 for less than £400 so wouldn’t suprise me if people were moving overAs a c50 user I think it's a great scope but the lack of built in LRF is a major drawback is judging distance at night is quite difficult.
If you can cope with that there are plenty used c50's for sale at decent money. I think folk are selling to move to the Hik.
I bough Habrok 4K's too, seemed a better choice than chopping the C50 for a different NV scopYeah I’ve got a pair of hik micro habrok thermal range finder binos, so won’t need lrf from the scope to be honest. Yeah they are so good for the money! How are you finding them?I bough Habrok 4K's too, seemed a better choice than chopping the C50 for a different NV scop
From the reviews I’ve watched even the gen 1 seems to be very good, especially as they are so cheap now!The £400 alpex is the gen1 not the 4k
Personally I think the c50 is better than the gen1 alpex but unsure of the gen2
Think the gen 2 might be better than the c50 but not sure if it’s “ enough” to warrant change
I personally wouldn’t go the arken zulus route just because I prefer the tubed nv but from what I see looks pretty good nv …. What’s it like in low light though in the final hour…
YepAm I correct in thinking the Alpex 4k is only 4k in day light and the night image is the same on both scopes?
Thermal channel is not as good as my Axion xq38 but still good enough to spot deer. Optical channel is amazing clarity, not as good as glass in full daylight but having the abilities at dawn and dusk, the lrf and IR all in one unit make the compromises worth while.Yeah they are so good for the money! How are you finding them?

Yeah im not sure would be interested to know if this is the case tho!The Alpex 4k has the same night vision as the original Alpex?
I was going to upgrade but won’t bother if that’s true.
Tempted to get a Zulus for the HMR tho as they look much smaller and lighter.
I used the my C50 along side my friends gen1 alpex…..both with PBIR-X ….. he now has a C50!
I know a lot of this is down to personal preference , but from what I’ve heard the image in the new alpex is better than the original at night?
Does anyone on here have both alpex that can confirm?
Thanks
