Best place for Boar in England?

Id think Forest of Dean….
I recently went with a friend to Forest of Dean shooting. Unfortunately there is a big ongoing cull with the forestry commission at the moment & even our guide was trapping them in numbers for a nearby estate where they couldn`t be shot. We saw tracks & could hear Boar in the distance, but unfortunately never saw any for ourselves. I know Boar are wild & nothing is guaranteed, but when you add in fuel & other costs & just end up sitting in a field, with not even a sighting it puts a dampener on it. Our local gunshop has said he has heard of 4 different people going out on such trips and having a complete blank recently to Forest of Dean so it seems numbers are dwindling.

Bit of a joke doing an armed ramble really unless you are selling the hopes.
I sat out on a tip that they were around 1/2 mile from my house from 8.30 pm - 1 am and saw nothing but roe then today I went back just to drop off some smoked mackerel rubbish to the baiting spot and as there was a light snow covering from last night there were fresh signs of grubbing from boar with no snow covering at the bait site so they are very late going out.

ive only done the one trip there. I had a blank as well-but could smell them not see them...

Don't know if he still does it but Elmer Fudd used to do it on here.
He's got loads of ground in the new forest and Monmouth Welsh Wales.
Saw tons of signs ,rooting n tooting but the boar said🖕

I walk in the Forest of Dean every week and still lots of signs of fresh boar activity but no idea how to get to shoot one - and then I saw it on Fieldsports Britain. I’m considering going to Europe instead, but it’s a shame the Forestry Commission doesn’t put it out for suitably qualified recreational stalkers. It would make me do my DSC2!

There were 2 guiding outfits offering boar shooting on here, one has just closed its doors for boar. Probably says something about the numbers available or they have lost their ground, with the FC culling effort I would guess the former is quite likely.

The last time I looked at the FC numbers in FOD they was something like 1500-2000 boar estimated. It has long been the FC’s ambition to get this down to 400 and manage the population at that level. This was some years ago, so one must assume they have now probably met or exceeded their target.

Just checked the FC data again and yep looks like they’ve achieved their cull target.

As above shot mine 1st trip out for one colin Lockerbie
