You’re both wrong, cup a soup is the way to go.
Fill the flask with hot water, bring whatever you fancy along and make it on site.
You don’t have to clean the flask afterwards either, no point in getting older if you don’t get a bit crafty with it.
I would point out (as I discovered this myself), soups are generally filled to the gills with salt, esp if tinned. For those among us, with high blood pressure….beware.
