Best value multitool

Leatherman Wave gets my vote although a couple of the other with interchangeable plier blades look smart.

I’ve got a Gerber Bear Grylls one and it’s rubbish.

Leatherman are expensive but honestly, better - I bought one when I was 16. Broke a blade when I was maybe 26 and they replaced on lifetime warranty and I’m 41 now with no issues, carry it every day.

They not doing lifetime warranty now only 25 years

Bugger - that means mines out of warranty then unless the old ones are still covered. 25 years isn’t bad. Think mine cost £80 at the time which was plenty but unless you lose it then you have it for life (or 25 years)

It's not true re the warranty. I sent mine back for new wood blade and jaws and they were not able to replace either and it was well inside the warranty period.

What did they do for you then did they replace the item for the price you paying for the warranty

Multi tools have lots of EDC issues , personally speaking i think they are done for now for now in the UK
I have a leatherman which is not locking and so EDC happy, can’t remember model, I’ll dig it out..

Update - it’s the ‘bond’ that’s already been linked above !

Leatherman wave Use it every day. Triggers broom. Been sent back three times and every time they just replaced the whole tool. Brilliant to deal with

Whats the best value multi tool for practical use. I know everyone says leatherman but what's good for practical use and value for money

In my case it is the Leatherman Wave but I doubt that I would say that at today's prices. Not that I have any issue with the knife itself just that the price is significantly higher than when I bought mine new for £10 which was about twenty years ago.

The story is that one of the guys on my watch came into work and said that he had bought a new genuine Leatherman Wave for £10 from the local New Look store that was shutting down. To a man the whole watch said I want one at that price, so he was sent into town and bought the last nine that they had in the store. Unfortunately one guy missed out because he was on leave but if they had another one in stock we would have purchased it on his behalf as I'm sure he wouldn't have turned down that deal.
It's a good useful tool, much better than the equivalent Gerber. One of the guys on our watch on another station across town had a Gerber that he had bought in the U.S.A. when in the marines and he had to send it for repair twice then finally gave up on it.

Still gotta say Leatherman.
I've had Gerber, but got rid of that, still have the old Wave and a newer Arc. Both get plenty of use.

Not even sure where the Gerber is.

Leatherman buy once cry once providing you don’t lose it you got 25 years of warranty I used mine that much it would no longer. Stay sharp emailed them replaced the entire tool there warranty is amazing

Leatherman Wave. Fathers had one for decades never went wrong, he purchased one for my birthday 6-7 years ago. Been used daily on the farm and various other jobs I’ve had over the years and I’ve yet to have an issue. Buy once cry once has always been my take.

Ok it's decided il go with the leatherman now the big problem is there that many models i don't know what to get. I want one with all the features but that not big an bulky becoming more of a hindrance rather than an asset but at the same time I don't want one that lacks tools when I need them. If possible id also love it to have safety features like a glass breaker and seatbelt cutter but I realise il not get everything im looking for

I personally have the Wave+. Plenty of attachments for my use - but no seatbelt cutter.
No bigger than a highlighter as you can see here.
You can purchase a neat leather sheath for it as well which goes onto a belt and keeps it compact and away.
It does have a locking blade so you need justifiable reason to have it on you when in public so take that into account.

All you will ever need. A separate pouch may be acquired for the extra 'bits' and 'bit driver'. Both can be worn on the belt unobtrusivly and without hindrance.

long term, weatherman is good value.... I was lucky enough to be given one 25 years ago.... had it replaced twice at Costco after snapping a screwdriver by using it as a pryer! than last year the metal you press to unlock the blade snapped.... wave extra through post as replacement.

Gerbers were on sale in Costco the other month at 25 quid or so, do not know if still there and at that price nearly picked one up to just pop into the bikes tool roll
