Beware, leaves are falling.

Had a great 150 bird day pheasant and partridge shooting on a very large estate today. However, after lunch we had one blank drive. Only one bird shot between the ten guns. The keeper, the beaters, and previous guns, were all perplexed as to the lack of birds. Then I found the answer, lying on the ground near the wood, the dreaded ball bearing.

The leaves are falling fast, and birds are now visible when on their roost. Beware, I am sure this will be the start of the catapult season.

I have been informed that there are three members of the travelling fraternity from Dartford who are going poaching three or four times a week. They are driven down to the countryside after dark, and dropped off on foot, and the car then retires to a nearby pub. They spot the birds thermally, and then catapult them in the trees. They go for neck shots as with a head shot the pheasant flaps around a lot, causing too much disturbance. When they have catapulted all they can they contact their driver, who comes and picks them up.

They are very active in the middle of Kent. Keepers, be on your guard !

And what would they be doing with the birds as most shoots can’t give them away let alone sell them our perhaps just killing for fun.

Pi-keys gamble on everything. They will be having a bet between themselves, that's why they sometimes cut the heads off... take them back and have a count up to see who got the most.

A pal got knocked out in a Beef-Eater pub one evening... two Pi=keys walked in, one nominated Tony as the "Fall Guy" the other one had to knock him out as quickly as possible.... Tony got sucker punched and was sparked out, jaw & eye socket broken... the perpetrators need a stout rope and short drop...

Look at the one who handed himself back in yesterday at Wandsworth... Billy Smith... he couldn't give a monkey's...

Sauer, With practice catapults can provide surprising accuracy. A pheasant up in a tree may only be 25 feet away.

Stevie/P, No, they are not eating them. They will shoot them "for fun". If they intend to return they will take them away. If it is part of a bet they will remove the heads ( as proof ). If they do not intend to return they will leave them for you to find in an obvious place. I had eleven dead chewed up hares left by a gate a month ago.
