If big Cats are out there then how come no stalkers have ever shot one??

Dave

Urban myth - supposedly they have, but FAC specifications ensure that they are unreported ............

refering back to my earlier posts regarding 'THE WALKING DEAD' i was unsure of the damage a young pricket had occured, the community on majority ruled it out to ruthless dog hunters, i also have heard of big cats in the area but on the majority the comunity have ruled it as 99% dog damage and i respect there experience!!
take a look at my post 'THE WALKING DEAD' and have a look for yourself!!

Duggers

Cat are normally evidenced by claw marks on the haunches - if the attack resulted in a fleeing prey. This would be followed by smothering via a throat hold. Cougar attacks can often show smashed ribs - a massive blow being struck by a paw at moment as a first impact.

The 'biting chunks out' technique, loss of bollocks etc are indicative of a chase by dogs IMHO.

As said elsewhere - good job done by taking it out!

The sire to my GWP bitch would use the "smothering via throat hold" technique with injured/wounded deer, while her dam is a biter and shaker (more typical dog technique) my GWP takes after her dam.

big cats

About two weeks ago there was a few reported sightings of a big black cat in tendring, essex. Apparently it was seen on a field behind the primary school. I know people went out looking for signs of it and found nothing.??? needsy

The photo of the dead Munty is not a cat kill. This deer has been eaten by a Badgers, Fox or and crows. The ears bitten off could have been a fox, a big cat would have dragged or picked up a Munty with no problem and taken it away into thick cover, and besides you can look to the fur as all big cats lick their prey, and the tongue of a big cat would leave signs on the pelt, including plucking signs.

Sorry no cat killed this Munty.

A very interesting thread. I do believe a large cat was shot on Dartmoor (It could have been Exmoor) about 20 years or so ago. I have very vague memories of it being shown on an Arthur C Clarke TV program. And on the news. A sheep farmer shot the beast late one evening believeing it to be a dog attacking his flock. When he went back the following morning, to his suprise he found a large cat!

Can anyone else remember the Clarke show on Cryptozoology?

Concur with sikamalc; found a similar casualty (roe) last weekend and badgers are the main suspects. If anyone can tell me how to attach a pic here I'll post one.[/img]

Please pass coment on these photos, I would love this to be a badger or something native as I do not beleave in Big Cats.

Carcase as found!
Munti002.jpg

Kill site, on a fence line 6 metres from the Munti.
Munti003.jpg

Bite marks on neck, film case for scale 54mm long.

Bite marks? Or slash marks from another muntjac's canines? Could be totally unrelated to subsequent predation.
