Would you get a big bore if you could?

Can we add in the 9.3x62 as you can often use this as the minimum big bore calibre in Africa etc
Put a good BDC scope on it and know your range and it will kill anything cleanly out to 400m with very little fuss
It is also much lighter on the shoulder!

No i still need a reason for me to get any particular gun
Would like a bigger UK bore gun over my 6.5 but not in the elephant gun league more a .338" federal or 338-06"

or an old school Lee Enfield converted to 45-70

Yup and as long as we are changing the rules it would be full auto.
Mk38 242 Bushmaster in 25mm flavour would be enough for me as the larger calibre ammo gets expensive. Flatbed mounted.
Bit of a bugger to moderate enough for rabbits but 1000 rounds a minute should allow a few to drop before they get wise.

404 Jeff or 416 Rigby
505 Gibbs.

I have shot a 600NE sort of cold blooded. It was an experience! I got to fire it on the understanding that I would fire both barrels sequentially. The second was a bit more frightening as I knew what to expect!!! :)

I probably wouldn't unless I was going to shoot Buffalo or Elephants, I much prefer he faster flatter shooting calibres.

I beleive in the right tool for the job so I cant see the point of anything bigger than a 308 in the UK.

I perfer the precision required for smaller calibers and invest in good glass and plenty of practice with my 243.

I dont reely have any interest in owning a larger calaber rifel, but it would be fun to shoot one on a range. I am sure the novelty would soon wear off if its anything like as painfull as shooting Lee Enfields was back in my 303 target days.

To be honest Tim, that's what I thought the majority I responses would be. The trend is very much towards fast and flat but so far this poll is showing that people plenty of people would supplement this with a cannon given the opportunity :)

Only reason I DONT have a Barrett 50 cal is there is no range near me that i could shoot it, would love to learn to shoot out to 1000 yds ,,,acurately

As do I prefer the faster flatter calibres..... But none of them put as bigger smile on my face as my .416 Rem !!

I do like my 9.3x62 though I would say I would not rate it as a "stopper" hence wanting a "40"

or 458 Lott in my lifetime someday.......

The Lott looks interesting and is as some say what the 458WM should have been. However, I would prefer something that ran at slightly lower chamber pressures. Sticky bolt lift at the wrong moment, could be, well, sticky...
