Two males arrested and charged – Strike Force Wandoona – relating to privately owned deer killed in January ’24 – Glen Innes - New England Police District.
Two men have been charged over alleged trespassing and illegal hunting offences in the New England region, after an ongoing investigation by the Rural Crime Prevention Team across the New England and Coffs Clarence Police Districts.
On Thursday the 18 January 2024, two privately owned large fallow bucks were killed inside a secure deer enclosure on a rural property near Glen Innes. Police will allege the animals were killed for the purpose of taking their heads and antlers as trophies.
The Rural Crime Prevention Team formed Strike Force Wandoona working with other police from the New England and Coffs Clarence Police Districts, and the North Region Enforcement Squad investigating the illegal hunting offences and the killing of the deer.
On the Monday the 11th of March 2024, investigators executed a search warrant on a storage unit in Coffs Harbour seizing antlers that police will allege are from the two deer that were hunted and killed.
About 12.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 13th of March 2024), the Rural Crime Prevention Team assisted by police from the Coffs Clarence Police District arrested two men aged 39 and 67 years of age in Coffs Harbour.
The two men were charged at the Coffs Harbour Police Station with the offences of Kill cattle (deer) with intent to steal (2 counts each) and Aggravated Trespass - enter agricultural land and commit prescribed offence.
Both males were released on conditional bail and are due to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court the 24th of April 2024.
The investigation is continuing.
