Bipod buying advice

For target shooting I’d go for an Atlas over the Harris. It allows forward loading to absorb the recoil pulse, especially good if you’re shooting off a hard surface.
I do prefer to forward load the bipod, but is it only specific makes and models that allow this ?

Can’t speak for the others but the Atlas has a bit of play forward and back whereas the Harris is rigid and spring loaded. It’s definitely easier to manage the recoil pulse with an Atlas.

I’ve had a UTG overbore bipod for a few months. For £200 I’m really impressed. If you’ve got a pic rail above the barrel and want to shoot targets with it, I’d highly recommend.

for me, it just sat where it should and didnt move, iv used one for years so maybe its just what im used to, i also have a hawke copy and that fine too,
some of the others are ridiculously priced, but whilst people pay it then they will continue to charge what they want, no bipod should be £4-500.
id be surprised if any normal shooter could get better results with a £500 over a Harris,
my opinion anyway,
Tend to agree, I always use Spartan on my hunting/field rifles, but on a TAC A1 a Harris will be perfect. A sizeable proportion of top US PRS shooters use the 6-9 S-BRM, I'm shite and that bipod has got me out to 1200 plus meters with a T3X CTR in 6.5 CM with factory loads, don't need more spend on the bipod,

Is there any advantage to have a bipod in the 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock position, and in the 12 o'clock do you see the mount in the lens at low mag?

Yes you see the mount at low mag, as you will when using a moderator, however it soon disappears when the magnification increases.

An overbore bipod lets the rifle hang, like a plumb bob. This is only my anecdotal opinion but it feels more stable, adjusting cant is more natural.

Hopefully will be getting a Tikka 3tx Tac A1 in .308 and CZ 457 mdt in .22 and I’m looking at a bipod to use on both obviously sturdy enough to handle the .308 recoil and be 6-9 inches in height used for target shooting only
What do people have or recommend as I’m new to shooting
Cheers
Can’t beat a good old Harris swivel 9-13 👌🏼👍🏻

Been there done that bought the lot lol
Got the tier one evo I find it stable but fiddly never seems to be tight enough always seems to want to pan across
Spartan ok but snapped the mounting bracket when forward loading easily replaced good on a stalking rifle when a lot of shots are off sticks

Got 3 Harris and find them bomb proof on my vermin rifles they never come off

Had atlas didn’t like it sold it on

I’ve used Harris for 30plus years so think I’m just used to them

For the type of shooting you say you do and if you don’t want to spend a fortune I’d buy a genuine Harris. The multitude of Chinese Harris copies / copies are with the exception of Blackhawk! Inferior in terms of metal quality (they rust quickly) and recoil robustness.
