Evening all,
Looking to upgrade the ole IR, got 2 in mind which are black sun dark engine and the PBiR-X but which do you guys think is the better / have you used?

Regards.

Ive got a black sun and my paI I was out with last night has the solaris.

Both superb with a Pard and Hawke Sidewinders.

Personally think nothing in it, so what ever comes up as a deal or second hand nearly new on here.

Pays to ask if they can be returned if not suitable as when I was looking to up grade i found you can get to good and suffered white outs which made my night vision un usable. Finally settled on a PBIR-X which is about the best I could get on my digisight LRF N970.

I use the pbir only because of the reviews on you tube, however there is an issue, I had the rifle between my knees when sat in passenger seat of truck and had a pain in my eye then realised the IR was still on, it's just a button on the end not a switch as such for on and off, it's hard to tell if it's on or off. I now have a routine of turning the IR off first whilst the NV is on before turning that off last, bloody dangerous.

Is that the 950nm if so what range u getting? Thanks.

Rich1985, I have a srx on a 4K pro and am very happy with it, get an excellent picture with the 4K and has the on/off switch illuminator which I find useful as a quick way to check if its on or off.

The X sight has a 4k sensor that gives excellent daylight image quality, but it is very insensitive, so at at night it needs a LOT of IR to produce a decent image.
LED illuminators simply don't produce enough IR for the ATN to produce a decent image at anything other than pretty short ranges.
You need a vcsel based illuminator such as:
Sirius XTL from IRlightbuilds (aka PBIR-L)
Solaris SRX from Blackwood Outdoors
Blacksun dark engine from the Nightvision store
Night Sabre Wraith from Ludicrous Lumens
Any of these 4 will give you a decent image at much greater range than you'll get with ANY led based illuminator.

Cheers

Currently I’ve been using a shitty old T20 illuminator that’s about 8 years old with my atn night sight..... shooting foxes out to 200yds no problem.... I have purchased a black sun dark engine.... I will let u guys know how I get on but I don’t see any problems.... thanks for all the help guys!!!! I will keep u all informed!!

I got the Pulsar Digex and tried to use my Black Sun Dark Engine (from use with my old Pard007) and it white outs the unit. Would any of the suggested IRs above work better with it, ie the Solaris?

I have a BSDE max 850 with Pard 007A , very very good work
Yesterday night at 186 mt.....

No, the Digex is too sensitive for most laser based IRs
You'd be better going back to an LED based IR to get any sort of decent performance out of a Digex

Night Sabre Wraith from Ludicrous Lumens

I've been using a Night Sabre Wraith from Ludicrous Lumens for some time - which I love, but they've just sent me an uprated front end, so I'll be keen to see how much that improves matters! Last night I was testing their Mk3 Vulpine add-on NV, which was superb. :)
