Blaser 4-20x58 IC

Funny video, will you not miss your reticle and turrets?

Are these made in house by Blaser? Or do they subcontract out to one of the German brands?

Using that hammer was bold! Most interesting unboxing video I’ve seen. Not sure I get blaser optics though. I am sure they don’t do it themselves so you’re buying something that is just rebranded. I’d rather get the optics from the professionals. Not to suggest they are bad optics through! Sure they’re great

Ilya Koshkin in the USA works in high end optical measuring in the states not directly related to firearm optics however his knowledge is expansive. He mostly frequents snipershide and has become well regarded in the optics arena. His holds the Blaser line of scopes very highly indeed.

I would also miss the ability to dial the turrets and I believe there isn’t a choice in reticle yet.

jeez for the price of them i just dont understand this blaser thing, im not knocking them, ive never shot one or looked through the optics, but are the optics worth the money, who makes them, and are they better than sworovski optics, someone out there will know bs

They bought the machinery and hired the brainpower, so I'd go for in-house.
The turrets are there, just lift the top turret. I haven't really used it yet, but I suspect I will need to modify it to accomodate a BDC tape.
As for reticle, it has a +/-4 cm gap around the dot (or 0,4 MRAD) which will take care of the majority of my hunting shots. I really would like to see better support for wind holds and will lobby for that.

Thanks! It helps to be an occasional idiot

Dialing is built into the scope, just lift top turret. Well made to, good feel to it. Reticle... I would definitively want more support for windage.

The market is being consolidated. At the top, all your money is poured into very few pockets. Blaser Group and Beretta Group are perhaps the two biggest in Europe now?

I have the 50mm version and also a Zeiss v8 56mm scope. I would say the glass is as good if not better than the Zeiss. The Zeiss I think works better in all other aspects. Ive owned Swarovski Schmidt and Nightforce.. Some people say they are made by minox?

I've tinkered a bit with the turrets now. It is a small job to modify it for an external BDC target turret style (it is now internal)

There is a 1mm locking pin, if I shorten that 3mm I remove the locking function & the need to lift the turret.
I can then file down turret exterior or just cut away the rubber grip and apply a BDC tape.
  • Ugly hack
  • Functional
  • I'll likely receive death threats and hatemail

I enjoyed your video! I have owned the same Blaser scope since last July. I am very impressed with how good it is in low light. Look forward to seeing further videos on it.

Its like a car with the windscreen wiper controls on the wrong side of the steering column. Optically uninspiring at the price too

Made my butt cheeks clenche.

That's a healthy sign, means you're ok mate!

No chance for me to check that yet, light is coming in more and more now at 67 North (to give you an idea, London is roughly 51N and Highlands 58N). But I have high hopes, it has been built with 5x ratio to keep twilight performance.

Currently editing another film, I'm very restricted these days so it's only basic zeroing. Maybe next year I'll be able to do some hunting with it, 2020 doesn't look good in that regard. Even if restrictions lift, there is a chance airfare will be so expensive I'm effectively denied travel to Scotland 😢

Thomas BIG question.wots your thoughts on thermal use in stalking.do you see it having a place

As if my thought on the subject matter in any way...

From a health & safety perspective, I'm all for it in the hands of professional. By now, there's so much study linking working shifts and nights to shortening your lifespan (my own profession has -9 years average lifespan expectancy). Thermals help professionals get cull numbers, cut down on nighthours and all that  dragging over clearcuts/rough ground in darkness. I see no reason why deermanagers should be less protected in their jobs than the general workforce. Thermals is a tool that impacts health positively, the same way moderators do.

As for recreational use... Pandora's box is already opened. I feel I would detriment my own stalking experience if I started using it for recreational hunts. I have used it, I know how effective it is, but if pulling the trigger was desired end-state I suspect it would be easier to just approach a farmer and pay him to shoot his sheep.
