Blaser Dream Build

I've never owned a Blaser, but this video makes me want one!

Certainly is a dream set up. Anyone know how well those fully moderated barrels work?

Yeah, they are nice to use, remember that they have a short barrel, 18 inches I think, so a slightly lower muzzle velocity but the deer don't seem to mind !

bi pod looks over designed. also much better using a Swarovski rail mounting for the scope. why mess around with scope rings?

Their scope rings are world renowned for their quality. Rails are good, but there's no built in elevation and you can't fit a level or a lamp etc.

The bipod looks decent to me, what's not to like? Light weight, nothing to dig into your back, won't get in the way of your sticks etc.

Shot one of these at Braces day last year. Nice to handle and work as well as any moderated rifle. It is a shrouded barrel and the moderator part needs to be unscrewed off the barrel and cleaned. This was the bit I didn’t like and I’m not sure what the life if it will be. The stock will only fit shrouded barrels so to change calibre you will need to buy the barrel and mod. This will not be cheap. Blazers saddle mounts are superb and will hold zero even when taken off and put back on again.
seems at present you won’t get much change from £5k and for that there are other dream rifles. For that money I would look at the K95 and a good pair of in ear defenders.

the bipods are excellent. Nothing complicated in deploying the legs out in the field. Also not springs to dig in your back like a harris.

I would have thought that it should Cant & Pan. just seems overly expensive and complicated when compared to say the Javelin Lite.

I'm not a fan of the way the Javelin is either on or off, it's so much nicer being able to fold away the legs quickly and not have to worry about storing in a pocket, pouch or holster. I had mine fall off a few times out on the hill too and ended up going back to a Harris. Nice to see that there are better alternatives out there now though.

I still have a Harris. they take some beating.

Oxymoron surely? ;)

I would have agreed with you in the past, but I'm really starting to appreciate them as hunting rifles. Light, safe, easy to take down and transport in a compact format (not that we're going to be doing much international travel in the next few months), great optics mounting options, fast follow-up shots etc. The only really downside is the price.

Are we a not a fan then ? what is your dream shooting stick?

Not really. Thing is I can't fault them functionally, great rifles and anyone who says otherwise is a moron. That said they're designed in the dark, occasionally rolled in garishness, and in all variants of the R8 feel cheap to my hand.

Dream for me is all over the place really but the Weatherby Mark V Deluxe I've just had rebarrelled should get close.
