Blaser or Sako?

This is simply not true.
I had a Sauer 404 and it was 4 inch off every time i even took it apart.

My R8 is returning to zero 100% all the time.
Really, mines with three different barrels returns to zero every time. Along with many owners, perhaps an issue with yours in particular. I have taken it apart put it in its ravel case driven a couple
Of hours reassembled it and shot deer with absolutely no issues.

Something wasn’t right there as that is absolutely not the norm for any switch barrel rifle…have seen in the past where people over tighten them or the forend is sitting off.

You might get a poverty spec Blaser for twice the price of an R8…
They are waaay more than double now.
Not a fan of the S20 and the new 100 is going to have to be exceptional to get past the abortion of a mount system

The 85 in carbon can be had for the price of a bog standard R8
The Raven Carbon with an R8 in it is something special though and significantly cheaper than the factory Carbon option

The brands are not in the same price bracket on like for like products

Genuine question. I’m no gunsmith so was wondering what it is you don’t like about the mount system?

Neither am I, but the cantilever system seems to be a knock-off Blaser system which isn't the best idea to begin with Feature_A barrel mounted_0.webp

I'd be more concerned about how the switch barrel system works, as @Ronin has previously highlighted.

Looks like the bolt is being used to align/headspace things...

I have a milestone birthday in a few months which coincides with my renewal so have decided to treat my self, my only centre fire rifle is a Sako 85 in .243 which I really like and has served me well.
I really fancy a blaser but not sure if it’s worth the extra money or is it all just hype? If I were to go for the Sako it would definitely be a carbon wolf and if a blaser more than likely an R8 Ulitimate.
im not looking for the old “I have a Blaser and it’s the best rifle in the world” but more the positives versus the negatives and if anyone had owned both that would be even better. Likewise I don’t need to hear “I have something else and it’s much better than a Sako or Blaser so you should get that instead”
Give me your thoughts guys 👍🏻
What about a Sauer 404 - I have one and it is really light, accurate and reloads seamless - I got awesome groupings at 300m at Bisley....

Did you come to a decision out of interest?
Just about to disappear down the Blaser Hole of Oblivion myself from a Sako semi custom…. 🫤

Hi, yes I decided what the hell you only live once and ordered the Blaser…… that was 10 months ago and I’ve still to receive it. Should be any day now from what I’m told. I went for the semi weight fluted barrel which is the reason for the long wait, apparently anything other than a standard barrel is classed as a custom order by Blaser.

Will report back my findings once I receive it and get a few rounds under my belt.

I bought one and was sceptical until I first used it Mega piece of kit you won’t be disappointed

They don’t rush 6 months for a 375 barrel they must almost build to order

I have both and like them equally for different reasons.

Blaser semi weight barrel. 270 Pro Success as my deer rifle.

Really like the stock and being able to easily take it to bits and get everything cleaned and dried after stalking in all weathers knowing that when it’s reassembled it will shoot exactly as before. The reliable accuracy with factory ammunition also enables faff free use.

I like my semi-custom Sako A1 .222 as it’s pin point accurate with factory ammunition and reminds me of my very first rifle which was a .222 Sako Vixen.

Presume you’re talking about a K95 and not one of those vulgar R8 things?
Hi
had one of the K95 models in me mitts on friday the guy in the pampisford gun dept has a number of blasers in stock, i’m now smitten i’ve got 1 or 2 of the R8 models, the K95 is is like a balanced wand, 😍 the one i looked was all set up and ready to go, good job the cabinet’s full up
i feel a gun sale coming up 😃

Speaking purely personally, for me Sako perfectly hits the 'sweet spot' between highly functional but nothing amazing to hold rifles like Tikka, Bergara, CZ, etc., and overly posh brands like (especially) Blaser.

I want a rifle that works, is accurate, feels nice in my hands, but I'm not afraid to scratch or get dirty either. My Sakos fulfill all those criteria, but I'd never be relaxed using a Blaser: I'd be terrified of getting a mark on it.

I prefer Sako 75s, but if they were impossible to find I'd quite happily go for 85s instead (not really convinced by the S20 though!).

Each to their own.
Exactly this :thumb:

I don’t think most are afraid to get a Blaser marked or scratched - they take a beating really well…for me, the Sako can’t touch the Blaser for smoothness and functionality, that’s what you are paying for in a Blaser. You can go and shoot one chambering in the morning, and swap a barrel and shoot big game in the afternoon if you want.

The straight pull is very smooth and works well and the R8 pro’s are very nice handling with good balance and point-ability.

It should be noted I don’t own a Blaser - I have shot a few though…I do own a Sako, that was more to try one and see what the fuss some made was about - ticked that box now and not all that impressed..it’s nothing special and I wouldn’t say it did anything remarkably. It “works” but if that’s the argument fro spending less money and going the Sako route over Blaser - why not save some more and go with a ruger/savage/CZ etc and save about half again…they will all function and “work”….

Gixer

Has anyone got a Sauer 404202? I don't see them mentioned very often but they look like a decent alternative to the Blaser and better than the Sako S20.
I would agree but I fixed the above for you! 😂

It’s the tang spring loaded safety/decocker that ruins them and Blasers for me! Not horrendous but just not as good at the 202 safety (which had its critics too I guess)

Gixer

I’m a big R8 fan and really like them , however the new prices of them are insane but buy once cry once.

I’d personally find a used R8 and buy that but I do like Sako rifles a lot also and still use one .
