Bloody grass seeds!!!

Springer of mine had a chesty cough for a long while now, so bad one morning he was admitted. Course of antibiotics seemed to sort him, but still coughs the odd morning. Suspected grass seed, vets clueless as to what to do next.

They might look daft but they definitely work

At least he won’t be able to hear the other dogs laughing at him. ☹️
He is a cocker he is never still enough, or in one place for long enough to hear others laughing at him!
In reality the ears are a thin silky material so they don't get too hot or stop them hearing, apart from the commands that I give him!

He’s a cocker, selective deafness is in his genes.

Not a day goes by that my springer doesn’t get grass seeds in his eyes at this time of year. I’ve bought a couple of boxes of saline pods from Screwfix and keep them in both cars and the game bag, only 25p a time. Prior to that it was £150 to get his abraded cornea sorted.
Hiya, I seldom visit the group, sorry for the insanely late reply.
If your dog has problem with seeds in his eyes, Rex Specs come highly recommended. Not cheap, but cheaper than constant vet visits in the long run..

Not quite a year but near as damn it and just had another one, this time (especially with it being a Sunday) I opted to forego the vets, a good swill with ear drops, head torch on, some blunt/soft nose tweezers and one squeak from her the offending two seeds came out in short shrift. A follow up wash out with the ear drops and she’s much happier!
(Caveat, if she’s not right tomorrow she’s still going to the vets as clearly I don’t know if there are more but she’s stopped head shaking and seems immensely more comfortable now!
Ffs, bloody grass!!!!

Bless, have some cut Lucerne that mine have a run on then on the lead when the hedge is getting close.

Have a dog that ended up with a perforated lung leaking into her chest cavity due to an ingested/inhaled grass seed.
Nearly lost the dog and cost a bit.
I don’t have an answer except stay out of the grass for the next few weeks.

Another one today! Didn’t escape the vets this time but she was glad to have it out. Ffs. They said they’ve been inundated lately, perfect storm of growing conditions and drying out I guess.

Eldest springers had a bad cough for the past two weeks after a walk round on our pheasant shoot. I wondered if it was kennel cough at first but my other three showed no symptoms and as the cough got worse I decided on a trip to the vets….
£165 and still non the wiser, they gave her anti biotics and some steroids and asked to see her again in a weeks time,
Woke up this morning to what I assume to be the culprit? (absolutley stunk wrotten) Coughs slowed down now and no where near as bad but I’m wondering if to get her checked out again or ride the steroids and anti biotics out first? I’m assuming it’s barley?? IMG_9208.webp
