Blueing.

If you want blueing Stephen’s and Johnson are the best and so few people do it now. If you want blacking like most guns have one of the best is Dan at Bromley and Sons in Kent he offers outstanding Best London Rust Blacking at very competitive prices and is outstanding

I've no desire to turn this into its "bullets" and not "heads" type of thread but there is a very discernible difference between a barrel subject to a;- rust blacking that is kind to soldered shotgun barrels and b;- hot blueing that is less so but will produce an incontestably lustrous finish with that all-important 'blue' glaze.

Ps: There was a time when certain rifle scope manufacturers produced product with blued tubes, such a Redfield in the early 70's.

Another for midcountiesblacking.co.uk.
Darren did a Sako S491 action and a HW77 both are exceptional, I opted for a high gloss finish on both.

Very true

I used to rust black - ravens back black 😃 I do admit, on newer rifles with certain steel, it could be hard for the blacking to take, even with etch. For old mausers etc they black beautifully, but a tikka not so much. Best reserved for older rifles and shotguns I came to conclude

Mid counties did my beretta barrels last year, my rfd sends any blueing or blacking jobs there, from memory it was £125, really good finish, if you want to do it yourself , ballistol do cold blue which seems to give good results

A few Darren has done for me

You’d have to speak to Darren - the Mauser was sent for bluing of the action and barrel plus associated parts

The bolt shroud was left “as is” - it was in decent order

Nice, I might have to get my old .30-06 P17 done, it's had cold blue at some point in the past so doesn't look good.
