BOAR distribution

Hi all.

Interested to hear about numbers and distribution of boar in Scotland. Very little are actually photographed in the wild so to speak. How well established are populations etc?

Heard abit about them on west loch Ness, loch arkaig and huntly area. But it seems to be kept on the down low by those who have them on their ground.

I suspect they are getting hammered pretty hard by them who have them on their ground also but I stand to be corrected!

I'm surprised they don't spread faster in the UK. Hammering boar is tough.... lots of cold long nights waiting for them.

I have always thoughts that if boar had “escaped” in say the Cotswolds instead of the Forest of Dean then they would have spread allot further by now. The combined firepower of the forestry commission rangers and generally liberal regard some residents of the forest have to firearms law and poaching seems to have slowed the spread of boar somewhat.
