Boiling heads - depth of pot?

I have a gas bottle I’m going to cut open as a head boiling pot, what depth should I cut it? Everything upto reds?

Yes it’s free of gas etc and valve is out and purged, I won’t blow myself up.
 
Rather depends on how you do your skulls, if cut you can get away with much smaller, but it’s not normally depth that’s the issue, more diameter, I find (albeit with big lowland reds) that an oblong shaped pan works best, it’s about 30cm deep but then I do tend to leave red skulls whole, you don’t need that if you’re doing skull caps

What width long ways is your pot? Sorry to follow up on your advice, I’ve only got one bottle to cut 🤦‍♂️😂

It’s just one of the old galv laundry tin jobbies people now use as planters, paid £10 for it years ago, sorry it’s tucked away in the depths of the garage currently so can’t measure it
 
Ah ok, so I think the bottle is to narrow!
That is a medal lowland stag though, you’ll do well to get anything that size north of the wall (and I mean the skull dimensions as much as anything, the highland animals I’ve shot have all been significantly shorter in skull length than these lowland animals.

They do let me south of the border from time to time 😂 that is a cracking head, maybe one day!
 
Acquired an old commercial cooking pot, and do them on the kitchen stove, just make sure windows are open 😊

On a serious note if you do them in the house it’s quite easy to make it smell like cooking normal things (if the skin is removed) just add some onions and herbs to the water, won’t harm the skull but just smells like you’re cooking a stew, obviously not if the head is rancid!!!
 
It’s a 19kg bottle cut open near the top and that’s a full size stag head I’ve got in there
