Boot recommendations

. get two pairs so the leather has a chance to breathe and dry,
I think that's the answer with leather boots, probably more than two pairs though. 1(at least) drying out, 1 soaking up wax, 1 being worn. Depends how long they take to dry out! Depends how often you get them wet!
Mine always get neglected and split open.

new walking/stalking boots
Your typical terrain is important consideration and if by Aberdeenshire, that means the Cairngorms, then that's rocky & rough terrain.
I've used Sarpa Chamonix Gortex boots for a long time.
I walked the length of the Pyrenees in a pair. 8 weeks. The sole was stiff, but had a pronounced curve, which gave great support and allowed easy walking.
Sadly they're not available now, so I've moved to La Sotiva Gotrex boots.
My theory is that the Mountaineering market is bigger and more established than the Stalking market, so if your Stalking in the mountains buy boots designed for Mountains.

Thank you for all your input we will look over it all and it will help my wife make some decisions on a new pair of boots or perhaps pairs of boots.
Please keep the info coming it will all be useful

Lowa Tibet GTX.

I have a pair of these and I love them for serious terrain or carrying big loads. However, they are a heavy boot. Bombproof though.

My "daily" boots are Scarpa Mescalito Mid GTX in fashionable light blue. Described by Scarpa as a "Technical approach shoe, ideal for classic mountain approach or wet trails," and I love them. Super comfortable from day one, warm and dry in winter. I would say they are too warm for mid-summer. I've had mine for a year or so and they show no sign of falling apart. There also seems to be an up-rated "Trk" version of the Mescalito. There's a Womens version too.

My wife has Lowa Taurus Pro GTX Mid (Women's version) and loves them. A nice light boot, plenty of support and also seem to be holding up very well after 18 months (admittedly not really heavy use).

My rec would be these , 100% water proof and are like wearing moccasins with plenty of ankle support, I've had mine5 yrs now I hunt in them and use for when doing bushcraft and camping haven't let me down yet

I’m surprised nobody has yet mentioned Asolo boots. They’re seriously good and there is an Asolo re-sole service. I wear Asolo and Salomon. It all comes down to personal preference and fit. After all, a boot isn’t really any good if it is waterproof and lasts ten years, but isn’t comfortable and supportive.

Agreed with this statement. Walking boots are not stalking boots by design but are much more versatile I have Solomon’s, scarpa and La sportiva paired with gaiters they are heaps better for moving long distances. As I have narrow feet there are a lot more fit options available.

I have two pairs of kenetrek orthopaedic boots. They are fantastic if you have feet and ankle issues. If not… they are quite expensive :(
I have found them very durable and they get worn every day pretty much.
