Well, possibly against better judgement I’ve had ordered the Lundhags professional direct from Sweden..... watch the classifieds for a secondhand bargain if they don’t work out!!!

Well sorry to disappoint but the Lundhags have arrived and I very much doubt I’ll be returning them, they feel amazing! In a different league to what I’ve tried thus far. Early days, granted, but first impressions are very promising.

Absolutely, I’ve had them on all day since they arrived and took the dogs out for a walk in them earlier too. So far so good.
immediate thoughts are, very boxy and roomy toe, which on other boots I’ve had issue with, BUT these seem to lace in such a way as to really firmly pull the heel back down into the back of the boot, so my toes can move but don’t slide forward to come into contact with the front of the toe, a real plus for me, best of both worlds it seems, and the ankle support from them seems second to none, they’re rigid but soft enough leather to not feel like they’ll rub. Good start. Yet to see how waterproof they are but my expectations are realistic on that front as they don’t have any form of membrane so it’ll be leather care that achieves that. So far given them a couple of good rubs of mink oil for a start.

The boxy toe was called "the toe box"!!!! The original ones had a much squarer toe box, it allows warm air to build up around the toes keepeing them warmer.

I’m rapidly exhausting options here, so on the off chance someone has any pearls of wisdom, let’s see...
So.
I’ve had Lowa Hunter GTX, good boots, but (and it probably could have been remedied with insoles), I found the footbed unsupportive for my feet.

Brandecosse Cervo, had some delivered this week, far too rigid with an almost orthopaedic feel, odd given I have some of their leather welly’s, love them, but not the lace ups.

meindl douvre, just tried some on in a local shop, not bad, but too much of a boxy toe, there seemed a lot of space for my toes to move, too much I’d say, plus, read too many bad reviews and personal experience in recent years about their leather.

Hanwag Tatra, tried them, very, very narrow, sent them straight back.

harkila..... let’s not go there, been there done that, got wet feet.

Been wearing altberg defender boots for a while, cheap and cheerful, they’ve done a job but I don’t like them and they took a lot of breaking in.

so, pray tell, what other options do I have? I’m looking at Lundhags Professional 2’s but so far can only find them in Finland, so if they aren’t a good fit, the cost of returning them will be substantial I would imagine!

What other options are there??? Or have I tried them all and I’m just fussy? (Don’t answer that).

Good socks ain’t cheap but make all the difference to a comfortable day or not, I will stop been so Yorkshire and try a pair

4km romp in the forest in them today and no complaints, no rubs, discomfort or sore feet, why did I not buy these boots years ago....?

I recall over seventeen years ago i took these straight out of the box they were delivered in and went on a four an half hour romp around Fife after Roe.
Now full of holes and cracks they still get used quite frequently. There the most comfortable boots that i have ever worn.

Maybe time to treat yourself to some new ones? Based on my experience I can wholeheartedly recommend outnorth in Sweden sir price and service, and the professional 2’s! Doubt you’d regret it.

I used Outnorth three years ago to purchase a replacement pair of Syncro boots. Which i use for when the weather gets really bad under foot. Good company to do business with.

I really like my karrimor SF cold weather boots. I have previously used the (altberg / haix?) issue cold wet weather boots and found them solid but not perfectly comfortable. The karrimorSFs have been very comfortable and very waterproof.

by the way I think the SF is a different brand to the joke karrimor outdoor wear brand, even though the branding is similar. They have a number of MOD contracts.
