Wellies recommendations

Have tried pretty much all brands of wellies over the years for both farming and stalking. The best in recent years have been the brand solognac from decathlon. They lasted the test of time far better than even my le chameau boots. When they had my size in stock late last year I bought two more pairs to have.
Worth trying on a couple different pairs if at all possible as foot and leg size/shape will play a part in how comfortable a pair will be for yourself.

I’ve got the Dunlop Purofort Thermo and I really like them. Ugly, Bit numb and take some getting used to but they are somehow spacious while not rubbing and being good to walk in even though it feels like you foot moves to start with - lovely and warm too bit again, with the space they don’t get that sweaty. And the grip is unreal - wouldn’t wear them on a formal shoot day but work wise they are great

I don't have a recommendation per say, but say away from anything with a Vibram sole, they are lethal when walking or wet or mucky concreate, similar to walking on ice all the time.

Dunlop wellies - often on offer and you can go very cheap and or expensive - had both - no complaints with any of them - the low cost ones tend to split on the bridge - but at £20 I get 18 months or more out of them and replace.

These are the steel toe cap safety ones - useful for large animal work. And cheap enough that if they get something absolutely biological hazardous - or just stuff you don’t want to deal with you bin them and don’t waste your time.

I hate wellies. I was sucked in by the skellerup thing AND get a size smaller thing - shitê on both fronts.

Got pair of aigle parcours 2 iso exactly 12 months ago (birthday)- if they weren't so dirty, I'd wear them as my slippers. Fantastic. 💯

I found skellrup more comfortable than aigle but the aigle are too soft and high in my opinion.

I have quite slim legs I suppose they are a bit loose but was never able to go roll my ankle in skelrups where aigle I have to be careful as they feel like platform boots with soft soles (not that I have worn platforms). Muck boots are ok but and I would try them again but with the better grip.

I have Aigle that I wear most of the time, and some old cheap Dunlop that I'd use for proper work when I don't mind ruining them..

I've done mucking out and moving cows around a dairy in wellies, and I was constantly paranoid about getting my toes stepped on. So I'd definitely want steel toe for that kind of work..

There’s always one 😂

Go to your local farm supplies, ask what's popular and try a few on. As you're dealing with horses, which I'd imagine they'll be mostly in a yard, maybe try a low dealer type with a safety toe cap?
I personally use Gateway wellys. They have the calf adjustment strap at the back, not on the side, which doesn't rub my calfs. They are a good wide fit and hold my feet / ankles securely and are comfortable.
Many years agoI had a fitting for AltBerg leather boots, which I wear 90%of the time, and I take an extra wide fit with a half size increase to allow for stretch.
Maybe also worth getting a proper fitting?
