Bow hunting UK.

Yeah you absolutely could. I like using a bow but to each their own.
If the law allowed it would be possible to make the choice, after learning the skills and field craft. that would sit well with me personally but would not prevent deer wandering around with arrows hanging from parts of their bodies through bad placements. and thugs with no skills whatsoever, which as you are aware we would be judged on.

Why is bow hunting illegal in the UK? I can understand why people might have a problem with it for deer but why can't you hunt small game with one. I know my 70lb compound bow has a hell of a lot more power than a 12 ft lb air rifle. I've seen plenty of rabbit run after being shot badly with a air rifle but I don't see that happening with a arrow from a 45lb plus bow especially if using blunts. Maybe I'm in the minority but I would really like to see it be made legal to use a bow for small game in the UK.
I can't see how they would run with an arrow pinning them to the floor :thumb:

It's allways amazed me that you can go out and buy a 40flb + bow no id no questions how the criminal element havnt caught on to this I've no idea and I hope they never do I suppose it's not as trendy as a knife or handgun!

I personally think with simulated stalks becoming more popular, it wont be long before we start to see bows, becoming more popular, as long at its at a target, i would say its quite a good fun.

I just hope that people don't think they can hit a target at 20m-50m then think their OK, to venture out into the field, and i don't think there is any licencing involved yet, only an age restriction.

I think some sort of licencing would need to be implemented but I don't see it ever happening to be honest. As far as bad shot placement goes there are plenty of thugs going round with no skills with a rifle, I think its down to the ethics of the hunter and not the choice of weapon.

As far as accuracy goes I would say that bowhunting is strictly a 100 meter and under thing.

Even at my very best and with a target bow setup (think 30 inch stabiliser and 15 inch side bar, 5kg total weight and target arrows) I would have not been comfortable shooting at a target any smaller than a large dinner plate at 100 meters, on a totally flat range.

A quality rifle should give you enough confidence to make that shot all day long.

Don't see why people who shoot out of a high seat should not be allowed to use a compound hunting bow as well.
