So after sending me reminder texts for Bravecto for my Labs I nip in to pick it up only to be told they now can’t prescribe without a consultation and seeing the dogs.So a tablet now goes from £55 to nearly double 😳
Was a fabulous vets until being brought out by some corporation ☹️

I am trying the Seresto flea and tick collar on my GWP. Been on a few weeks now, have not noticed any side effects yet. Can buy them on line for around £35. Have not noticed any ticks yet- but out stalking this weekend so that will be the test on how many I find after that.

Been using the seresto collar for a few years now with good results only a very rare tick embedded in dog, unlike frontline and the likes the tick is repelled and does not have to bite the dog to work, for 8 months protection in my opinion the most cost effective.

Vets are no longer allowed to prescribe Bravecto with a consultation

This one's not a fault of the corporations, and I'm no fan of corporates. It's due to changes the regulator the RCVS brought in a couple of years ago under the mantra of 'Under Care and Out of Hours' which I tried very hard to fight. Unfortunately the new rules came in as the majority of RCVS Council went with much of what the registrar at the time was pushing regarding remote prescribing, although the idea of foreign companies setting up online practices with no 'boots on the ground vets' for when thing go wrong was just about headed off. Another example of a problem which didn't need fixing in my view as the historic rules prevented this issue just fine. New solution creates at least as many problems as it fixes.

Part of it tried to reduce overuse of antimicrobials and antiparasitics, even if the final outcome changed nothing other than cost to the client and paperwork for the vet. I agree with the sentiment of that bit even if I'm cynical about it's effect.

It is. It's advertised to sell it to you.

The spot on isn't as good as it depends on a flea running over the dog and picking up enough to die. The tick tends to stay in one place. Some, may die, but it's not that effective.
